While some inventions beg the question ‘why?’, other’s scream from the rooftops a very resounding ‘why the hell not?!’, and this one is definitely the latter. The Floating Record vertical turntable (no, you didn’t misread that) is exactly as advertised, a vertical turntable that spins your favourite records and puts them on display at the very same time, and when you look at this thing in action it’s easy to want one in every room right away.
Built in Chicago, it’s an easy to use, all-in-one system featuring a walnut or maple veneer base, carbon fibre tone-arm, hi-fi phono pre-amp (so no dramas with having to purchase a whole new sound system), has 2″ full-range stereo speakers already built in, a belt-drive system (33 1/3 or 45 RPM), RCA output, and comes with an AT95E cartridge. It’s also plug ’n play, ready to rock out of the box. It also looks damn sexy, and for $669 AUD is an affordable talking point at your next dinner party, or a great alternative to every other horizontal turntable on the market, which now all seem kinda boring.
