Once the poster boy of a portable music revolution, the Sony Walkman boasts a storied and influential past that looks to continue with its latest model, the NW-WM1Z Signature Series Walkman. It’s a shiny, little package decked out with the kinds of technological improvements you’d expect of Sony.
The Walkman sports in a high-grade, gold-plated copper case, which gives it the shiny veneer of a piece of gold bullion. It features the S-Master HX digital amp, which was created specifically for the Walkman and helps reduce distortion and noise and is now compatible with Native DSD. It also comes with DSEE HX upscaling for greater fidelity and four additional EQ options and promises to deliver High-Resolution audio for files with a sampling frequency of 96 or 192 kHz.
Whilst Apple may have cornered the lion’s share of the portable music player market, the premium, 256GB NW-WM1Z should certainly be a tempting choice for active audiophiles everywhere.
