Peaky blinders enzo ferraro

‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator’s Next Series Charts the Resurrection of Ferrari

Apple has purchased a new drama series about Enzo Ferrari, the latest project from Peaky Blinders screenwriter Steven Knight. The show, Ferrari, is inspired by the 2016 biography Ferrari Rex by Luca Dal Monte, which takes a deep dive into one of the most complex, tormented and versatile men in motorsport racing. Below is everything we know so far on the upcoming project.

The series will focus on Enzo Ferrari, who spent his life on a mission to build the fastest racing car in history. While his accomplishments on the track have been well documented, many have neglected the trail of tragedy that followed the automotive genius. Between 1956 and 1961, Ferrari was deeply scarred by the death of his firstborn son, Dino, and what he considered a betrayal by his lead driver, Juan Manuel Fangio. According to Variety, the series will cover how Ferrari rebuilt his racing team from scratch, selecting five rising stars in motor racing to chase victory.

“I am thrilled to be telling such an evocative story about this legendary man and his iconic brand,” Knight told Variety. “Enzo Ferrari’s utterly extraordinary life was defined by his dramatic personal and professional journey, and ‘Ferrari’ is a celebration of an incredibly complex and fascinating human being.”

Series creator, Steven Knight, who recently unleashed season six of his hit BBC crime drama Peaky Blinders, will also serve as executive producer alongside Lorenzo Mieli, Nicola Giuliano, Paolo Sorrentino, Giulio Marantonio, and Lorenzo De Maio. Stefano Sollima will take the directing role, with Dal Monte working as a historical consultant for the series.

“As an Italian I feel honoured to get to tell this story of Enzo Ferrari, a shining example of Italian excellence,” said Sollima. “Through his relationship with Ferrari Spring Team, the five drivers Enzo ‘adopted’ in his Scuderia after the loss of his firstborn son, we will explore the unique qualities, the great genius and the dark obsession that turned this man into a legend.”

This is not the first time motorsport fans have seen Ferrari portrayed on screen. In 2003, Sergio Castellitto played him in the Italian biopic Ferrari, while Remo Girone played him in the 2019 film Ford vs. Ferrari. Additionally, it was reported in February that Adam Driver is set to play Ferrari in a new biopic by director Michael Mann. Pre-production on Steven Knight’s Ferrari is currently underway in Italy.
