Pharrell Williams is too cool for a regular biopic. The music and style icon is set to launch Piece By Piece, “an unparalleled motion picture” that will tell Pharrell’s story through a colourful landscape of LEGO bricks. Partnering with The LEGO Group, director Morgan Neville, and Focus Features, the film will be a unique cinematic journey “that captures the magic and brilliance of Pharrell Williams’ creative genius.”
No official plot or trailer has been revealed, but the press release does tease the documentary’s plot. It reads, “Uninterested in making a traditional film about his life, Pharrell set out to tell his story in a way that would set audience’s imaginations free. Developed from his singular vision, ‘Piece By Piece’ defies genres and expectations to transport audiences into a Lego world where anything is possible.”

Pharrell Williams also took to Instagram to celebrate and reveal, sharing a picture of the film’s poster. He expressed his surprise, saying, “Who would’ve thought that playing with Legos as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It’s proof that anyone else can do it too #PieceByPiece.” In an official statement, the 13-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/producer said, “When I had this crazy vision to tell this story through Lego bricks, I couldn’t have imagined a better partner than Morgan. He is a legend.”
Williams further added, “Grateful that Focus wanted to collaborate with us and I’m honored to share this with the world and bring people into my universe. Building with Lego bricks encourages us to follow our imagination…who would’ve thought that playing with these toys as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It’s proof that anyone else can do it too.” Neville and Caitrin Rogers of Tremolo Productions will be overseeing the film’s production, collaborating with Williams, Mimi Valdés, and Shani Saxon. Meanwhile, Jill Wilfert and Keith Malone serve as executive producers for The Lego Group.
“Five years ago, Pharrell Williams approached me with the idea of helping him tell his story through Lego animation,” director Morgan Neville said in the official statement. “It was one of those rare moments where I knew in a second that this was a journey I wanted to go on. I’m grateful to our partners at Focus Features and at the Lego Group for their belief in our crazy mission. We assembled an incredible team of creative collaborators to help make a new type of film. I can’t wait for people to see it.”

As of now, there are no trailers or official looks at Pharrell Williams’ ‘Piece By Piece‘, leaving us to wonder how the singer’s multi-faceted career will be translated into the world of LEGO bricks. Will it feature his music, showcase his fashion influence, or surprise us with something new? Only time will tell, but the possibilities are as limitless as his boundless creativity.
