Spider-Man Noir, who you might remember as one of the many Peter Parker variants in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is swinging into live-action television. Per Variety, Amazon has greenlit a brand new spin-off TV series, featuring the titular character, with Steve Lightfoot, known for his gritty crime dramas, as co-showrunner. First announced to be in the works back in February, the upcoming Spider-Man Noir TV series at Amazon will mark the first-ever live-action rendition of the character.
The yet-to-be-named spin-off series will reportedly focus on an “older, grizzled superhero” in 1930s New York City. In a distinctive move, Variety also reports that the show will establish its own story in a different universe, with the main character deviating from the familiar Peter Parker. Steve Lightfoot will join Oren Uziel (originally named as the writer and executive producer) as the co-showrunner and executive producer.

Lightfoot is no stranger to the Marvel universe or superhero narratives, having developed and helmed the intense The Punisher series for Netflix, starring Jon Bernthal across two gripping seasons. The British producer’s portfolio extends to acclaimed shows like Hannibal, Narcos, and the Netflix sensation Behind Her Eyes. Additionally, he’s a co-creator of the compelling 2022 Apple TV+ drama Shantaram, featuring the charismatic Charlie Hunnam.
Amazon’s upcoming Spider-Man Noir TV series will also benefit from the executive production of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the directors behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, alongside Amy Pascal, who produced 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. Debuting in 2009, with the release of Spider-Man: Noir #1, Spider-Man Noir is an alternate take on the friendly neighbourhood superhero, dealing with the challenges of New York during the Great Depression.
In this comic storyline, Peter Parker’s journey begins when he is bitten by a spider housed within a spider-god idol, granting him extraordinary superhuman powers similar to a spider. While we don’t know much about the project, its plot, or how the studios plan to adapt it, Sony is clearly on a Spider-Man franchise expansion spree, with a slew of live-action spin-offs in the works, including Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter. Furthermore, this collaboration between Sony and Amazon goes beyond the upcoming Spider-Man Noir series, as there’s also another project in the pipeline—a series on Prime Video and MGM+ centered around Silk: Spider Society. Beyond these, both companies reportedly have more projects in the works, with Sony overseeing a staggering 900 different Spider-Man characters destined for both television and film.
Amazon’s Spider-Man Noir TV series currently has no release date or official synopsis and there’s no word on the cast either.
