TAG Heuer x Kith

  • Movement: Quartz
  • Model: Formula 1
  • Diameter: 35mm
  • Lug-to-Lug: 40mm
  • Thickness: 9.45mm
  • Water-Resistance: 200m
  • Price: AUD$2,200

TAG Heuer teamed up with Kith to create a new and exciting range of Formula 1 models full of 1980s nostalgia. These fun models come in a variety of colours with something for everyone. The fashion label’s influence is apparent through these Formula 1 references, and harks back to the red and black TAG Heuer Formula 1 that ignited Kith founder Ronnie Fieg’s passion for watches.

“The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series 1 in red and black was my very first watch, the timepiece that helped me express the unique style that’s now manifested itself in Kith,” he said in a statement.

Amazingly, TAG Heuer and KITH have tracked down the original supplier of that case along with the exact mould that was used for the pieces made in 1986. The lug-to-lug diameter is 40mm, while the case diameter is 35mm, so it wears rather small and on-trend. There are several limited models in this new range, with each piece being powered by a Quartz movement, adding to the nostalgia of the original model. Pricing for the new TAG Heuer x Kith Formula 1 models is set at CHF1,500.

Franck Muller Cintrée Curvex Double Retrograde Hour

  • Brand: Franck Muller

  • Reference: Ref. 7880 DH R
  • Movement: MVT 800-AJNR Bidirectional automatic movement
  • Diameter: 36mm
  • Water-Resistance: 30m
  • Power Reserve: 42 hours

Avant-garde watchmaker Franck Muller has extended its iconic Cintrée line with a new Cintrée Curvex Double Retrograde Hour. A stunning work of horological innovation, the new timepiece features a unique double retrograde hour complication, which offers a surprising new way to read time. Specifically, the watch’s two retrograde sectors help to split the day in half, with one upper arc for the day hours (from 6 AM to 6 PM), and another lower arc for the night hours (from 6PM to 6 AM).

“Unlike a traditional hour hand, which makes a full rotation around a central axis, the Cintrée Curvex Double Retrograde Hours displays the time with both hour hands, each moving along an arc,” Franck Muller wrote. “When the upper and lower hour hand reach 6PM and 6AM respectively, they instantly jump back to their starting position (at 6AM and 6PM respectively), alternately representing the hours of the day and night.”

Naturally, that wasn’t enough for Franck Muller, with the brand also opting to have the minute numerals take the place of the hour numerals on the dial, offering an original perspective that contrasts with a classic dial. It brash and completely unconventional, but somehow, it works.
