The Australian Open has officially begun, providing us with yet another excellent reason to temporarily set aside our responsibilities until the tournament concludes. Bondi Brewing Co. Launches Cause-Driven Collaboration Beer Series

Bondi Brewing Co. is kicking 2024 off with a bang, as it announces the launch of its new microbrewery, situated within Bondi’s Easy Tiger restaurant – in what represents a partnership with House Made Hospitality – and the launch of a special collaboration with a cause.

Coined Good Tanks, this limited edition beer series sees Bondi Brewing Co. collaborate with esteemed local personalities and community leaders to craft one-of-a-kind brews. And the best part: for every beer sold, a dollar will be donated to the charity or community project chosen by the collaborators.

All beers in the series will be brewed at Bondi Brewing Co.’s brand new microbrewery and locals will also be able to enjoy these collaborative creations on tap at the venue, along with Bondi Brewing Co.’s core range of beers, which are available year round.

The first beer in the Good Tanks series, the Salties Pacific Lager, which has been brewed in partnership with community group, Bondi Salties in support of Pledge For The Planet, was unveiled during a launch event at Easy Tiger on the evening of Wednesday, 17th January, with further beers to be released in due course.

On January 26, 2024, the Blak Powerhouse, a community-led event by Powerhouse and We Are Warriors, makes its return. The lineup features artists Shal, Michael Cook, and Tjukurpamaru, along with a screening of the 2022 documentary Through the Fire showcasing the work of We Are Warriors. The event will include performances by renowned First Nations artists like Maanyung, Mi-kaisha, Rona, Miss Kaninna, Becca Hatch, 3%, JK-47, and surprise special guests. Additionally, a panel discussion on Blak Power and Excellence is scheduled. The Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, and Muggera dance performance at 5 pm on Powerhouse Ultimo forecourt will kick off the night, continuing from 5-10 pm, both in-person and via live streaming on NITV.

Champion & NBL Celebrate Pride in Play

Champion and the National Basketball League (NBL) are celebrating the return of the Pride Round this week. Following the success of its debut in 2023, the initiative champions active allyship and recognises the LGBTIQA+ community’s contribution to sport. Across Round 16 which runs from January 17 –21, all courts will feature Champion’s Pride Progress flag x ‘C’ logo, with players, coaches, and staff having participated in Empowering Allies sessions with Pride in Sport. Throwback Blends Tennis and Basketball with ‘Court Sports’

Mastercard Serves Up Australia’s First Wheelchair Ballkid Pilot Program

Ballkids are essential to tennis tournaments, yet some kids do not have the opportunity to take part. As the tennis world gears up for the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne Park, Mastercard has unveiled Australia’s first wheelchair ballkid pilot program to demonstrate the potential of wheelchair users to be ballkids in tennis tournaments around the world.

Eleven-year-old wheelchair user and Junior Wheelchair Tennis Champion Sonny Rennison was the inaugural participant. To create the pilot program, Mastercard connected with a creative tech partner, Grand Slam trainers, and current and former world ranked players to support Sonny deliver the role at the high standard required by tennis players at Grand Slam tournaments.

Mastercard and its partners are building on this commitment by making the ball collector, holder and learnings from the pilot available to tournament organisers and tennis fans around the world, with anyone with a 3D printer able to produce the technology that was developed.
