‘Karen’s Diner’ Opens In Sydney, So Go Ahead and Ask for the Manager

‘The customer is always right’, they say, but Karen’s Diner is flipping the old adage on its head. In an attempt to poke fun at the ‘Karen’ stereotype, events and hospitality company, Viral Ventures, are opening a six-month pop up that will hopefully breathe new life back to the CBD. This American themed diner will have staff that are encouraged to be rude to customers – so good luck trying to ask for the manager!

Launching on July 15th in World Square in a transformed empty retail space, Karen’s Diner is a 1950s style American diner where the staff are rude. Now, you may be thinking, “how is this different to any other restaurant in Sydney?” Well, unlike your local bistro, staff at Karen’s Diner have actually been instructed to act impolitely. The menu consists of American style comfort food, including Burgers, wings, shakes cocktails. It also offers a number of vegan and vegetarian options, but be prepared for some tongue-in-cheek banter from the waiter if you start to get fussy.

Speaking of the new launch, Viral Ventures Co-Founder Aden Levin said: “All of our concepts at Viral Ventures are designed to make sure people have fun and potentially try something they have never experienced before, whether it’s an immersive experience in our Wonderland Bar or being served by angry Karen’s in our new Karen’s Diner. We just want people to have fun and this is our approach to all our venues and pop-ups around Australia.”

Viral Ventures own the famous World Bar (now known as Wonderland Bar) in Sydney’s Kings Cross as well as other immersive experiences like The Wizards Den. They will be adding Karen’s Diner to their portfolio, following 12 months of incredible success, which saw the business launch 85 new events globally, despite the pandemic proving challenging for the industry.
