Sold-Out The James Brand Ellis Multi-Tool Re-Released

When it comes to everyday carry (EDC), most brands will ambitiously claim their multi-tool products are flexible enough to tackle anything. Portland-based adventure business The James Brand can actually attest to that. The EDC brand has carved out a niche, quite literally, for conventional products that are as diverse as they are reliable and for 2022, the team has reintroduced an icon. This week, The James Brand re-released The Ellis, its sold-out mainstay multi-tool, complete with a bold new look and redesigned form function.

According to the adventure label, the new Ellis design comes by way of consumer feedback, with The James Brand noting an overwhelming demand for a scissor function, a first for the Oregon business. In response, the latest iteration cops a handy addition to its already-stacked multi-tool offering, which currently includes a partially-serrated Swedish Sandvik 12C27 stainless-steel blade and screwdriver. Additionally, the brand revealed that the new drop point tool has been reimagined in three new colourways: black on black, OD green on black and OD green micarta and stainless steel.

“We have also updated the construction of the Ellis into a slip-joint design to make it easier to use,” The James Brand wrote. “The new Ellis also features a new deep-carry wire clip as well as our “All-Things” scraper, flat-head screwdriver and pry tool. The Ellis is built around a partially-serrated Swedish Sandvik 12C27 stainless-steel blade and is available in three different scale options.”

Impressively, the new James Brand Ellis multi-tool makes use of a slip-joint design, which utilises a metal bar spring to hold the knife open and closed, making it easier to use. Born from the same lineage as the much-loved Elko, the new Ellis multi-tool is designed to be an in-pocket everyday driver, no matter your line of work. You can pick up the new Ellis multi-tool now via The James Brand’s official website below for USD$119.

We asked ourselves “What things do you really need from a knife like this?'” The James Brand wrote. “We made sure that the Ellis had all of those functions, and then we ditched the rest. With a partially serrated blade, scissors, pry bar, and bent wire clip you won’t know how you ever got along without it.”
