LEGO keeps the hits coming for people young and old and their latest collaboration with McLaren and the Ayrton Senna merchandising brand could be our favourite. Part of the Icons series, this set replicates the mighty McLaren MP4/4, one of the most recognisable race cars of all time. The real-life version was driven by Senna himself during the 1988 Formula One World Championship, where he and the McLaren-Honda racing team emerged as victors. Now it’s yours to build and display, complete with an Ayrton Senna minifigure.
The story of the McLaren MP4/4 is like a riveting sports movie in the making, as the car surmounted various regulation hurdles to become the most dominant player of its era. It was later voted the greatest F1 car of all time by a panel of professional engineers and designers and also the greatest race car of the 20th century by the readers of Autosport Magazine, amongst other accolades.
That’s not to mention the turbocharged career of Senna himself, who’s the subject of both an award-winning 2010 documentary and an upcoming Netflix miniseries. He tragically crashed and died at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix but his legacy lives on.

With the latest LEGO Icons building set, automotive history comes roaring back to life. As always, the brand went to great lengths to render an authentic replication with functional parts. Consisting of 693 individual pieces, the set includes a working steering wheel, rod suspension, adjustable rear wing, gear stick, turbocharged V6 engine, slick tyres, and other meticulous details.
An Ayrton Senna minifigure is also part of the package and it comes perched upon a podium. At the base of the podium is a photo of the man himself, joined by an inspiring Senna quote.
