Put an Onion Ring On It: An $80,000 KFC Wedding is Up for Grabs

It’s not a wedding without a couple of Zingers, and we’re not just talking about the ill-advised attempt at humour from the Best Man. Forget the diamonds, throw out the bouquet and shirk the bland chicken/fish alternative drop, the Colonel is serving up a once-in-a-lifetime marriage opportunity. KFC Australia has officially confirmed the return of KFC Weddings, with one lucky couple set to score an all-inclusive nuptial package with all the trimmings.

The new announcement comes three years after KFC launched the original Weddings campaign, offering six competition winners the opportunity to have their special day dusted with a smattering of secret herbs and spices. With the project proving to be a finger-lickin’ success, it’s little surprise that KFC Weddings are returning, however, the chicken chain has certainly stepped things up for 2023.

This time around, the winner will receive a full wedding package complete with KFC catering, theming and budget to support additional elements including venue hire, photography and entertainment “to the total value of $80,000”. In case that wasn’t enough, KFC is also handling the jewellery side of the equation, confirming it has got the rings sorted, courtesy of the new ‘world-first’ BBQ Onion Ring Burger.

Said to represent the binding rings of marriage, the new burger features two golden onion rings, alongside an original recipe fillet, cheese, lettuce and a new BBQ sauce that we can only assume symbolises the sweet and tangy sensation of eternal love.

“At KFC we’re always looking at life on the fried side, we know our customers love our fried chicken almost as much as they love their partners, so what could go better together than KFC and weddings, a moment of celebration where our delicious chicken can be enjoyed right at the heart,” Tami Cunningham, CMO at KFC Australia said. “We’re also incredibly excited for Aussies to sink their teeth into our new BBQ Onion Ring Burger, we have a feeling this will be a new fan favourite for many years to come.”

Those looking to celebrate their nuptials with the Colonel will need to head to their local restaurant and grab a BBQ Onion Ring Burger. From there, you can pop the question in whatever bizarre fashion you like, provided you share a proposal picture, a 15-second video introducing yourself and explain in 100 words or less why you deserve a KFC wedding.

That might seem like a lot of effort, but considering the average price of a wedding these days is about $100,000, you’d be foolish not to enter. The competition is open to all Australians over the age of 18 with entries closing on 27 November 2023.
