If the old saying that “Third time’s the charm” holds true, then the new 2020 BMW S 1000 RR will be pretty incredible considering just how awesome the first two models were. The new S is the third generation of the bike and was built with three ideas in mind: faster on the track, lighter, and easier to ride.
Goal one was accomplished by increasing the horsepower, bringing it to a peak of 205 at 13,500 rpm. Goal two saw the bike drop from 459 pounds to 434. And goal three? How does a refined suspension and electronics for improved performance, feedback, and rideability sound?
The S relies on BMW’s 999cc in-line four for an engine, but for the new bike, they’ve updated it with variable valve timing and valve stroke ShiftCam tech, and a new intake passage and exhaust port. These updates mean that the S has more torque in the low and mid-range with more power at the top. They also used their Flex Frame, which increases the engine’s load-bearing function. The bike comes with four riding modes—Rain, Road, Dynamic, and Race.
BMW also narrowed down the seat and fuel tank to allow for a better grip with the knees. A 6.5 inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity will keep you up to date on the bike’s performance. You can pick up the bike in either Racing Red or Motorsport, with pricing starting at USD$16,995.
