Chinese audio company Huawei has teamed up with French HiFi company Dvialet on a smart speaker that has a premium look and a 60 watt double subwoofer. The Huawei Smart Home Sound X speaker also features 360-deegree sound and is compatible with Huawei’s voice assistant “Xiaoyi.”
The Sound X closely resembles the Apple HomePod in shape and style. It measures 203mm in height and in width comes in at 165mm. It weighs only 3.5 kilograms. That weight may make you raise an eyebrow, but consider that this speaker is made of metal, something the competition isn’t doing. The metal body gives the Sound X a more premium look, which could serve Huawei well on the marketplace.
The Sound X features a quad-core processor and has 512 gigabytes of RAM. It also has 8 gigabytes of internal storage. There are six internal microphones that can pick up your voice from over five meters away, while on the outside there are physical keys that are used to mute the speaker and to control the volume. The Sound X also works with Bluetooth 5.0 and can connect through both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi to stream your music or audio choices. As a smart speaker, you’ll be able to use Xiaoyi to control other appliances and even lights or smart sockets through the HiLink application. Devialet contributed their speaker active matching (SAM) tech to help reduce any distortion. They also added in their push-push woofer vibration-canceling system.
This isn’t the first collaboration for Devialet, though it is their “first partnership in Asia.” It’s a smart move on their part as making this partnership gives the company access to China, which has become their “second largest region worldwide in terms of sales.” The Huawei Sound X will only be sold in China, where it will go for a price of 1,999 yuan, or roughly $285.
