AirPods and Beats wireless headphones are the go-to audio provider for many people, but there’s one situation in which they aren’t the best selection, and that’s when you’re dealing with your sound source only being available through 3.5mm jacks, such as on airplanes or the treadmill at the gym. Twelve South has the solution with their AirFly Pro Bluetooth Transmitter.
The AirFly Pro builds on previous models of the AirFly. Just plug the transmitter into the 3.5mm jack and pair your either your AirPods or your Beats headphones to it. While the first version of the transmitter only supported on set of headphones, with the AirFly Pro you can pair up to two sets of headphones or ear buds to the transmitter. You can also send music or direction from your iPhone to your car or stereo system AUX IN jack. The battery for the transmitter lasts up to 16 hours, so even those coast-to-coast flights won’t be a problem. The AirFly Pro is compatible with many different models of headphones, including Apple AirPods, Beats Solo, Powerbeats Pros, Bose QuietComfort 35, and Sony WH-1000.
The Twelve South AirFly Pro Bluetooth Transmitter is available through the Apple Store and retails for $54.99. With the transmitters ability to effectively act as a Bluetooth splitter for two headsets, and the added functionality of acting as a receiver, the price is well worth the cost. Additionally, the device is unobtrusive. It matches Apple’s aesthetics and isn’t overly large—in fact, it comes with a cap that has a key ring loop on it, so it can easily be carried on your key ring.
Most of the time, you’re not going to need the AirFly Pro, but when you do need it, you’ll be thankful you have it. Those long flights with uncomfortable headphones will be that much more tolerable. Time on the treadmill will pass more quickly when you can comfortably listen to the TV program you’re watching. And when you want to have your music play on that old stereo system, the AirFly Pro can make it happen.
