Wolverine’s Limited-Edition Halo Boots are Worthy of Master Chief Himself

Forget the Warthog, disregard the Needler. When it comes to iconic Halo gear, only one piece of kit fits the bill – Master Chief’s signature Mjolnir armour. From the super-strong multilayer alloy to the gel layer that regulates temperature, the exoskeleton suit has seen its fair share of action, and what’s more, it’s overcome the lot. It’s a sentiment that rings true for another iconic safety brand, Michigan’s own Wolverine. For 139 years, the bootmaker has crafted rugged releases that stand the test of time, so it makes perfect sense that given the chance, Master Chief himself would rock a pair. In a bold crossover that spans vastly different genres, Wolverine and 343 Industries, developers of the blockbuster Halo franchise, have unveiled a limited-edition boot inspired by the masked protagonist.

Limited to just 117 pairs worldwide, the new Wolverine x Halo: The Master Chief limited-edition boot brings a sturdiness to the silhouette that can’t be denied. On first look, the “117” – The Master Chief’s Spartan number, can be seen on the exterior heel of the left boot, but that’s just one of a host of subtle nods to the classic Xbox franchise. The UNSC (United Nations Space Command) insignia can be found throughout the boot, while the outsole is furnished with the in-universe logo for the “Materials Group”, the manufacturer of the Master Chief’s Mjolnir armour.

The story of how the collaboration came to be is quite an interesting one. After Wolverine released a video demonstrating the strength of their Hellcat boot’s safety toe back in August 2020, fans and video gaming enthusiasts were quick to point out that it looked straight out of the Halo universe. With fans calling on the brand to make it a reality, Wolverine set to work on crafting something fit for the Chief. After nearly a year of design and collaboration, the Wolverine x Halo: The Master Chief limited-edition boots have finally been unveiled, and they couldn’t come at a better time. The new boot announcement comes just as the long-awaited live-action series hits Paramount+.

“Given our roots in military science fiction, we’ve often heard from our fans that there is an appetite for a boot inspired by the Master Chief. So when Wolverine approached us about a collaboration, we were ready to answer the call,” John Friend, director, Halo and Xbox Consumer Products at 343 Industries – Microsoft said. “The limited-edition boot gives Halo fans a chance to step inside (the boots) to become Master Chief and bring the Halo universe into their everyday life, and we’re eager to see how fans react to the collaboration and forthcoming launches as part of our partnership with Wolverine.”

Priced at USD$225, the Wolverine x Halo: The Master Chief limited-edition boots were made available to purchase on March 29, with fans quickly snapping them up. In fact, as GameSpot reports, second-hand listings saw purchases shoot up as high as $2,000, almost 10 times the original price. But for those lucky enough to get their hands on one of the 117 pairs made available, it marked a small step towards a real-life fantasy more than 20 years in the making.
