AC Hotel by Marriott Delivers Luxury to Melbourne Southbank

Marriott Bonvoy has expanded upon its Australian portfolio with the debut of our nation’s first AC Hotel. It lands smack in the heart of Melbourne Southbank with seamless access to all kinds of local events, arts, eats, and entertainment. This monolithic pillar of stylish glass offers epic skyline views through elegant floor-to-ceiling windows and makes its presence known at first glance. Similarly impressive is its array of features, including an infinity pool that runs the width of the building, an outdoor terrace, two bars, dining, a fitness centre, tons of natural light, and 205 tasteful guest rooms and suites.

As Australia’s cultural capital, Melbourne sets a high bar when it comes to the travel experience. Thankfully, AC Hotel has this very concept down to a science. The building itself makes for a completely welcome addition to the local landscape, where arts and entertainment come in steady supply. Guests are invited to stay inside and sip a signature Gin & Tonic next to the pool or venture out into the bustling inner-city enclave of Southbank, which brushes up against the CBD and South Wharf precinct (i.e. Australia’s largest urban renewal project).

“AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne Southbank’s design truly reflects the brand’s experience. The design approach to every space is optimal comfort and utility through to modern décor, with open layouts offering functional beauty without distraction,” said Jennie Toh, Vice President Brand Marketing & Brand Management Asia-Pacific, Marriott International.

Bringing that very design to life was DKO Architecture in collaboration with Capital Alliance, leading to a glass facade with LED lighting that activates at night. Each room was approached with a similar focus on elegance and detail and an emphasis on maximising space. Guests can expect a clutter-free layout, open closets, modern textures and materials, polished surfaces, integrated bathrooms, accessible outlets, and majestic views of the Yarra River. It’s an atmosphere that purposefully balances South Melbourne’s industrial setting with the Spanish roots of Marriott’s AC brand.

In addition to the rooms, suites, restaurant, pool, and bars, AC Hotel by Marriott Melbourne Southbank hosts a number of collaborative workspaces for business meetings and creative brainstorming sessions. Amongst them is the AC Lounge, which turns into a vibrant social hub at night, complete with a delicious menu of European tapas. The brand’s signature Gin & Tonic experience is available here and elsewhere and presented in a custom hand-blown glass, which was scientifically developed to heighten the drinker’s senses.

“We are thrilled to launch the new AC By Marriott Hotel,” said Mohan Du, Founder and Managing Director of Capital Alliance. He went on to call it a “collaboration which has resulted in a purposeful, design-driven hotel which will spark the beginning of a new landscape for Southbank.”

From the leisure facilities and fitness centre to the outdoor infinity pool, various meeting spaces, and minimalist guest rooms, AC Hotel by Marriott leaves nothing to be desired. Add to that an ideal location with access to countless events and locales and you’ve just discovered your next dream getaway. We certainly know where we’ll be staying next time we’re in Melbourne.
