The Porsche Panamera has been around since 2010, with a second generation coming to market in 2016. The latest iteration, the 2019 Porsche Panamera GTS Sport Turismo, continues the tradition of a stunning four-door performer but introduces that sporty attitude to a wagon design.
The Turismo has a longer roof than previous Panameras, making more of a wagon; yet, it holds onto that classic 911-esque styling. That elongated roof allows for a rear hatch section with more space for gear and easier loading and unloading. The Turismo uses a 4+1 configuration to seat five passengers.
Here’s where the sportiness of the Turismo comes in. The Turismo has a turbocharged 4.0 litre V8 with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission with Porsche Traction Management. With 453 horses under the hood, and 457 lb-ft of torque, the Turismo has a top speed of 179 miles per hour and can hit 0-100 in 3.9 seconds.
That engine puts the Turismo somewhere between the V6-powered Panamera S with 440 horsepower and the Panamera Turbo, with its incredible 550 horsepower. The Sport Chrono Package comes standard, as does the adaptive air suspension set up and 15.6-inch front brake discs and 14.4-inch rear brake discs. Porsche is also offering a rear axle steering system to make the Turismo even more responsive.
This is one instance where you won’t be embarrassed to drive the family station wagon—especially since you’ll have the performance to leave everyone else in the dust.
