Chevrolet E-10 Pickup is a Modern Hot Rod

Chevrolet is mixing retro and new in the new Chevrolet E-10 Pickup. Rolled out at SEMA in Las Vegas, the fully electric pickup truck shows that Chevy’s electric gear is fit for the hot rod world.

The E-10 pickup concept takes a 1962 Chevrolet C-10 pickup body and replaces its insides with a ton of electric tech. That tech includes a powertrain from the Bolt EV that builds on a “double stack” of electric motors. Referred to as eCrate, this set up is built into a modular housing that allows for up to three motor assemblies to be stacked and linked together, and as the old saying goes, two is better than one. In this case, those two motors provide even more power. The system also has two 400-volt batteries and a conventional SuperMatic 4L75-E automatic transmission. In the truck’s bed, tucked under a hard tonneau cover, are two 60kWh lithium-ion battery packs that feed the Bolt power electronics. The two battery packs increase the range and power and allow for simultaneous charging.

“The Chevrolet E-10 electrified Connect & Cruise concept system reimagines the performance crate engine for hot rodders,” reports Jim Campbell, vice president of GM performance and motorsports. “As General Motors continues to work toward our vision of a zero-emissions world, concepts such as this help us get there, while still supporting the enthusiasts who love to drive vintage vehicles.” To help keep that love alive, the E-10 comes equipped with a sound emulator with three speaker that simulate an induction sound in the front and two banks of a V8 in the back. When it comes time for cruising, drivers can select from five modes, which include a V8 engine, a futuristic sound, a Chevrolet Camaro LS7 Z28 track tuning, a LS7 Z28 touring turning, or silent.

Outside of the electric tech, the E-10 doesn’t wander too far from the original C-10. The Bowtie emblem in the grille lights up and the headlights and taillights are LED. The truck has been lowered a bit. The interior features the original instrument panel with a digital update for the electric system. The cabin has been restored and seats have leather trimming.
