Lexus has always flown the Japanese torch representing the spirit of innovation within the Japanese domestic car market. And thanks to support from buyers around the world, the brand has continued to evolve as a luxury lifestyle brand and car manufacturer. Delivering products and experiences that challenge perceptions of what traditional auto manufacturing is capable of. Technologies and value have been at the heart of the brand’s ethos since 1989, and now, the automotive industry has entered a period of once-in-a-century transformation. Lexus is making itself known as an innovator in the EV space with the unveiling of the ‘LF-Z Electrified’ BEV.

While fulfilling our social mission of realising a carbon-neutral society, we will continue to provide the fun and joy that cars bring, and we will contribute to the happiness and smiles of our customers and everyone involved with Lexus,” said President and Chief Branding Officer, Koji Sato

In addition to the growing social mission of carbon neutrality and compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, Lexus understands its customers’ lifestyles and values are changing. Peoples needs are moving goalposts at a speed beyond imagination. And the social environment, mobility needs, and lifestyle demands have evolved as part of the evolving luxury landscape. Throughout it all, Lexus continues to innovate as they did with their RX 400h in 2005, and their latest ‘LF-Z Electrified’ BEV envisioned for 2025.

Under the Surface

While it remains a concept at this early stage, the LF-Z Electrified adopts a BEV-dedicated platform. Featuring a new four-wheel driving force control technology known as “DIRECT4”. This platform uses the instant responsiveness of the electric motor and steer-by-wire systems to freely control a vehicle’s four wheels for an engaging and dynamic driving experience that sets it apart from conventional electric vehicles. Artificial Intelligence systems will aid the driver along the way with route guidance and restaurant recommendations amongst other features.

On the Outside

The ‘LF-Z Electrified’ acts as a study model for the future evolution of Lexus styling. The brand clearly aiming for a simple and captivating shape that is rooted in strong proportions and distinctive lines. The overall shape is very suggestive of a BEV, that is, one that starts low in the front and peaks toward the rear. The vehicle is comprised of a continuous silhouette centred on a smooth cabin and large-diameter wheels that transmit the power of the high-power electric motors to the vehicle’s four corners for a wide stance with a low centre of gravity.

Lexus Future

  • By 2025, Lexus will introduce 20 new vehicle models including BEVs, PHEVs, HEVs, and other electric vehicles, and develop a diverse product lineup
  • By 2050, Lexus aims to achieve carbon neutrality throughout the lifecycle of its entire model lineup – from the manufacturing of materials, parts and vehicles, to vehicle logistics, to the final disposal and recycling of older vehicles.

There are a host of new features on this model to look forward to, and we can’t wait to see where Lexus takes auto-manufacturing as we ultimately move into the post-petrol world.
