For years, the big SUV has ruled the road, and while they continue to be popular, there is a rising interest in compact SUVs. Mercedes-Benz has revealed its Concept GLB SUV—a car that will ride that wave of popularity.
“The Concept GLB is a durable and practical SUV with nonetheless compact dimensions. Whether it is a generous, seven-seater family vehicle or a versatile leisure time companion: we are certain that this concept will be of great interest to our customers,” says Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Mercedes-Benz car sales.
With room for seven occupants, the GLB has a third-row seat and two additional single seats that can be stowed away. For extra cargo space, the middle row can also be folded down. Of course, as a Mercedes-Benz, the GLB is luxurious, with nappa and nubuck leather in a chestnut brown colour with orange trim.
The dashboard and the centre console feature walnut accents and have a chiselled honeycomb pattern that is duplicated in the pedals.
Outfitted with two-colour, 17-inch wheels shod in off-road tyres, the GLB is meant to venture off paved streets. Fortunately, it has the engine for such adventures—an M260 four-cylinder gas-engine with 224 horsepower and a peak torque of 258 lb-ft. The 4MATIC transmission keeps the GLB in permanent all-wheel drive.
As for looks, the GLB stays classy with minimal lines, high-gloss black parts and subtle orange details to dress up the white mango paint.
