The Aston Martin Volante Vision Concept Aircraft looks like something straight out of Q’s arsenal. But where Aston Martin’s have long been part of 007’s adventures, this concept vehicle promises to bring flight to all. The Volante Vision is a autonomous, hybrid-electric, flying vehicle. Capable of vertical take-off, the Volante Vision negates the need for a runway. The vision behind the vehicle is to provide fast, efficient travel in urban settings to help create a congestion free form of luxury travel. The Volante Vision is capable of transporting three passengers. It is also self-piloting, reducing the need for extra training.
The Volante Vision’s sleek fuselage is very reminiscent of Aston Martin’s already signature look. That look has always been synonymous with luxury transport, and Aston Martin is looking to expand that reputation to include air travel and mobility innovation.
Cranfield University, Cranfield Aerospace Solutions, and Rolls-Royce partnered on the design of the concept, which was unveiled at the 2018 Farnborough Air Show. Volante, which is Italian for “Flying,” was on display alongside other concepts from companies, like Boeing’s hypersonic aircraft concept. While urban air travel may still be in the realm of science fiction, with more and more companies coming on board, it won’t be long before personal aircraft for our daily commutes becomes science fact.
