Drawing on the historical relationship between colour and material, RIMOWA has unveiled its latest seasonal hues, welcoming Umber and Ultramarine to the Essential and Groove collections. Formally announced in Cologne earlier this week, the release features a brown Umber, derived from the Latin word umbra (meaning shadow), alongside Ultramarine, a deep blue that pays homage to Renaissance lapis lazuli pigments. English actor Joe Alwyn fronts the accompanying campaign, playing a young artist who moves into a new studio and incorporates these raw earth pigments into his creative routine.

The arrival of these mineral-inspired tones gives the polycarbonate Essential line a distinct point of difference against luxury luggage alternatives such as the Globe-Trotter Centenary and the TUMI 19 Degree collections. Where TUMI skews industrial and metallic (like RIMOWA’s own Originals), and Globe-Trotter relies on traditional vulcanised fibreboard, RIMOWA leverages lightweight polycarbonate engineered for maximum colour saturation. The German Maison completes the look by colour-matching every exterior component, from the handles and zippers to the logo badge and wheel housings, creating a uniform, monochromatic shell.

Functionally, the suitcases retain RIMOWA’s core hardware signature, including a stage-free telescopic handle, TSA-approved locks, and a Multiwheel system built for smooth navigation. Beyond the hard-shell cases, the release extends into daily leather goods with the Groove collection, introducing calfskin bags accented by shiny palladium hardware. Let’s take a closer look!

Engineering the Essential Collection

Crafted from impact-resistant polycarbonate, the RIMOWA Essential range combines heritage German craftsmanship with modern travel technology. The new Umber and Ultramarine models showcase colour-matching across the entire exterior frame, ensuring the stage-free telescopic handle, zipper tape, wheel housings, and badge blend with the bag’s main shell.

When we look inside, the Essential cases feature a dual-organisation layout. One side features a fully zipped enclosure with a large mesh pocket for smaller items, while the opposite side houses RIMOWA’s adjustable Flex Divider system. Equipped with integrated compression straps, the divider allows travellers to pack efficiently while preventing clothes from shifting during transit.

Every suitcase in the Essential collection comes with a complimentary leather address tag and is backed by RIMOWA’s lifetime guarantee, covering all functional damage for cases purchased after July 25, 2022.

Groove Cross-Body and Everyday Accessories

The Umber and Ultramarine palette extends beyond suitcases into RIMOWA’s Groove leather goods collection, with versatile options for daily travel and commutes.

While the Groove Cross-Body Bag Small and the Zipped Pouch, both finished in Umber, provide compact storage for everyday essentials. The centrepiece of the leather range is the new Groove Mini Shopping Bag, available in both Umber and Ultramarine. Handcrafted in Italy from smooth calfskin, the tote features a magnetic top closure, shiny palladium hardware, and a removable, adjustable leather strap that allows it to be carried by hand, worn over the shoulder, or styled crossbody.

The drop is completed by travel organisers, including three sizes of packing cubes (Small at AUD$175, Medium at AUD$195, and Large at AUD$215) and a Trifold Toiletry Pouch in Ultramarine.
