He had one of the most iconic heads of hair in all of football, but now Manchester City‘s Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland has gone and done the unthinkable: buzzed his golden locks completely off.

In real ‘news that stops the world’ hours, Haaland uploaded a video to his YouTube channel titled ‘New Season, New Hair!!’ where he documents the moment his luscious hair was cut, as well as the reaction of those closest to him.

“This beautiful blonde hair,” Haaland says at the top of the video, “time to let it go.”

“I was thinking of doing it straight after the World Cup, but everything was so busy I didn’t have time to do it. The season starts now, so it’s time for a fresh start.”

Haaland only showed one bit of hesitation, in that Zlatan Ibrahimović told him to never cut his hair because “your strength is in your hair.”

Alas, he put his faith in the clippers, and has emerged an entirely new, almost unrecognisable man. Naturally, those closest to him had, shall we say, mixed reactions.

While his partner, Isabel, thinks the new look is cute on Haaland (“I think you look really tough!”), former City head honcho Pep Guardiola answered a call with confusion.

“No way,” Guardiola said, “you’re lucky to have hair. I would love to have that hair.”

Even the famously blunt Noel Gallagher of Oasis was on board, who, on a call with Haaland, said that “change is good” though admitted the new look does make the striker look “17-years-old.”

Haaland’s City team mate Jack Grealish took it even further. He doesn’t think Haaland looks 17-years-old at all.

“You look about 10-years-old!” Grealish said.

“I actually can’t stop looking at the front of your head I swear. I love it.”

But, of course, the biggest reaction came from Ibrahimović himself, who famously sported a similarly-voluminous set of locks throughout his professional career. Naturally, when he answered Haaland’s call, he was shocked to say the least.

“What the f*ck did you do?” Ibrahimović laughed.

“Oh my god, what the f*** is this? You lost a bet or what? Oh my god, block me and erase my number! My wife says you’re crazy. I will be honest with you, I’m always honest. You’re going to be faster now, or what?”

It wasn’t long before Haaland put his newfound aerodynamics to the test. While Man City ended up trumping Bournemouth 2 – 1 at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, Haaland himself fumbled a few shots. Was Ibrahimović right about his strength coming from his hair? Only time will tell.
