Pillow Talk is running its Black Friday sale across most of November this year, and instead of one big weekend, the offers roll out in stages from Friday 30 October.

The staging is the part worth knowing. Sheets, kitchen and dining, and bathroom go first. Buy in the wrong week and you can pay full price for something that goes 40% off a few days later.

The first window opens with the bed. Sheets are 40% off from Friday 30 October to 12 November, which puts a fresh set on the mattress well before the first heatwave. The range runs from linen cotton blends to 400 thread count bamboo cotton sets, in plains, stripes and checks.

2. Kitchen & Dining: 40% Off

If you’re the one hosting Christmas lunch, this is the window that matters. Kitchen and dining is 40% off from Friday 30 October to 12 November, and the range is built for setting a table: table runners, embroidered napkin sets, tea towels, serveware and butter dishes.

3. Bathroom: Up to 40% Off

Guests notice towels. Bathroom is up to 40% off from Friday 30 October to 12 November, covering towel ranges, bath mats, bath runners and robes, which is the cheap fix for a guest bathroom that still runs on towels from the last share house.

4. Beach Range: 40% Off

The second wave starts Friday 6 November and runs one week only, to Thursday 12 November. The beach range is 40% off, which covers loungers and beach chairs, shade shelters, cooler bags, beach towels and picnic gear.

5. Rugs: 40% Off

A rug is the quickest way to make a living room or bedroom look finished, and usually one of the more expensive. Rugs are 40% off from Friday 6 November to Thursday 12 November. The range includes washable floor rugs, which make more sense than most in a house that’s about to see a lot of visitors.

6. Cushions & Throws: 40% Off

This is the longest-running offer in the sale. Cushions and throws are 40% off from Friday 6 November to 12 November, and the offer continues through the third window from 13 to 22 November, so there’s no rush on this one.

7. Furniture: Buy One Get One Free, Then Half Price

Furniture gets two different offers. From Friday 6 November to Thursday 12 November it’s buy one get one free on selected furniture, mix and match across indoor furniture and lighting, with the discount applied to the lowest priced item. From Friday 13 November to Sunday 22 November it switches to half price on indoor furniture: bedheads, side tables, mirrors and the like.

8. All Bedding: 40% Off

The third window, Friday 13 November to Sunday 22 November, is the one for the bedroom. All bedding is 40% off, and Pillow Talk pitches it as the time to swap in summer layers: a set of sheets or a cooler quilt, the right pillow and mattress topper, or a new quilt cover to change the look of the room.

10. Christmas: 40% Off

The Christmas range is 40% off from Friday 13 November to Sunday 22 November, which is about when most of us start thinking about a tree and a table. Garlands, wreaths, decorations, Christmas table linen and candles are all in the range.

How to Time the Pillow Talk Black Friday Sale

Work backwards from what you’re actually buying. Hosting before mid-November, or just need the basics sorted: the first window, 30 October to 12 November, covers sheets, the table and the bathroom. Redoing a bedroom: wait for 13 November, when all bedding goes 40% off and indoor furniture goes half price in the same window, so a quilt cover, pillows and a bedhead can go in one order.

Furniture is the one decision that needs maths. Buy one get one free (6 to 12 November) takes the lowest priced item off, so two pieces at a similar price work out close to half price on the pair. Buy one piece, or two at very different prices, and the half price offer from 13 November is the better deal, as long as what you want is in the indoor furniture range.
