Best New Series on Netflix

New series launches are the reason we come to Netflix in the first place — they are the stuff of gold. This month, we see a host of fan favourites return, along with some exciting premieres. Here are the best new series on Netflix for this month.

The Sandman: Season 2 Volume 1

Release Date: 3 July 2025

Neil Gaiman’s career might be all but over, but this fantasy series based on his work will live on for one more season. The story follows Lord Morpheus aka Dream (Tom Sturridge) as he escapes captivity and embarks on a perilous journey. Season 2 unfurls in two volumes and reunites our protagonist with The Endless, a dysfunctional family of god-like beings. After this meeting and a fateful decision, Lord Morpheus becomes the target of revenge.

Untamed

Release Date: 17 July 2025

This American miniseries takes place in Yosemite National Park and centres around the discovery of a dead body. The subsequent homicide case plunges investigators into the heart of a vast wilderness, where nature herself makes the laws. It comes to us from the writer behind survivalist dramas like American Primeval and The Revenant. Buckle up.

Too Much

Release Date: 10 July 2025

Lena Dunham co-created this British romantic comedy series, which follows heartbroken New Yorker Jessica (Megan Stalter) to London in the hopes of a fresh start. There, she forges a connection with an indie musician named Felix (Will Sharpe), and an unconventional love story unfolds.

Glass Heart

Release Date: 31 July 2025

This musical drama series hails from Japan and opens with every musician’s worst nightmare: getting kicked out of the band right before their debut. But with the closing of one door comes the opening of another for Saijo Akane, who’s recruited by a brilliant recluse to join his new ensemble, TENBLANK. Witness the group’s rise to stardom and all the challenges its members face along the way.

Best New Movies on Netflix

Hoping for some fresh movie content this July? Netflix has you covered. The streaming service is dropping another slate of quality movies and feature films for your enjoyment. Whether you are looking for thrill, spills or some comedy shrills, the best new movies on Netflix offer a little something for everyone. Here are all of the movies coming to Netflix this month.

Happy Gilmore 2

Release Date: 25 July 2025

Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) is long-retired and well past his prime at the outset of this sports comedy sequel. To pay for his daughter’s expensive ballet school, the world’s unlikeliest golfer marches onto the green once again. We can’t promise the same combination of heart and hilarity as the 1996 original, but we can promise the return of sports villain Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald), and that should be enough to warrant at least a cursory glance.

The Old Guard 2

Release Date: 2 July 2025

In this superhero sequel, Andy (Charlize Theron) and her clan of immortal warriors square off against a powerful enemy, thereby guarding humanity with a newfound sense of purpose. The movie brings back all the main players and adds Uma Thurman and Henry Golding to the cast.

Nosferatu

Release Date: 26 July 2025

Director Robert Eggers employs a gothic visual palette in this modern take on a timeless tale. Bill Skarsgård plays the evil Count Orlok (aka Nosferatu, aka Count Dracula), who becomes obsessed with the beautiful Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp). The story unravels at a gradual pace as characters grapple with a suffocating darkness that’s beyond their control. Watch it in the dark…if you dare!

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Release Date: 12 July 2025

This franchise prequel takes place against the backdrop of deadly political warfare and the 10th annual Hunger Games. A young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) has been reluctantly assigned as mentor to a female tribute (Rachel Zegler) from the 12th District, setting the stage for all kinds of adventure. Director Francis Lawrence returns to the fold for an instalment that seemed to please most fans.

Things to Consider for Netflix

When it comes to streaming services, Netflix is arguably the biggest and best-known. The entertainment juggernaut has produced some of the most binged series in recent memory, not to mention given new life to ageing and formerly cancelled favourites. When you are considering a subscription or you just want to know what to watch on Netflix, here are some considerations to keep in mind.

Subscription

In order to watch new Netflix series and movies, you will need to subscribe to the platform. That being said, you can see what is out there before you sign up as it is possible to browse Netflix without subscribing. You can browse Netflix’s full catalogue of titles without subscribing by visiting netflix.com/watch-free. With this site, you can watch the first episode of many popular series without needing to sign up.

Netflix Cost

If you have been asking ‘Is Netflix cheaper than Prime Video?”, the answer isn’t as straightforward as you’d think. A standard Netflix subscription with ads is cheaper than Prime Video, while a standard subscription without ads is slightly more expensive than Prime Video. Netflix’s standard with ads is priced at AUD$7.99 per month, while Prime Video will set you back AUD$9.99 per month.

Titles and Originals

Netflix is renowned for its massive catalogue of titles, highlighted primarily by its extensive range of Netflix originals. These in-house productions receive the biggest marketing push on the platform, so you have likely tuned in, seen one or two or unwittingly binged whole seasons. For reference, the most-viewed series in Netflix history is reportedly season one of Squid Game, which generated an estimated 265,200,000 views, followed by season one of Wednesday with 252,100,000 views and season four of Stranger Things with 140,700,000 views.
