Given the nature of each brands origins, it’s no surprise the Tommy Jeans x AAPE BY A BATHING APE collaboration has been so successful in capturing the interest of the fashionable youth. Drawing inspiration from the best of the archives while reimagining its context in a savvy modern landscape, they embody a sense of style that fuses streetwear and prep for everyday staples. We love the choice of materials, prints, and textiles used in this collaboration, let’s take a closer look.
Brand: Tommy Jeans x AAPE
Release Date: from January 14th
Where to buy: Tommy Jeans’ website, select Tommy Hilfiger stores.
Both brands operate here under their youthful sub-labels.
Tommy Jeans launched in 2018 as the fashion label’s youth-centric sub-set. The aim was to capture the attention of Gen-Z fans who showed close interest in limited-production lines (as we see here) and retro-inspired pieces that were popping up in vintage stores and secondary marketplaces. Re-imagining classic lines of apparel and footwear, Tommy Jeans successfully became one of the great new-vintage brands by continually drawing from its almost 50-year-old archives.
Sharing the youthful and hip message embodied by AAPE BY A BATHING APE, the latest collaboration includes comfortable heavily trended staples with a number of logo motifs and prints. The AAPE logo is featured heavily, surrounded by the classic Tommy Hilfiger logo, apparent on a number of vintage-inspired apparel that makes up the collection, including; stonewashed denim jackets, beanies, dungarees, matching cargo jeans, a full-zip AAPE hoodie, and a 2-in-1 reversible jacket. Some of which are splattered in plaid prints and the famous AAPE camo.
Campaign imagery is shot in New York City, with the brand bringing on board a number of young skaters to showcase the collaborative issues. The documentary-style campaign follows four NYC skaters through the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Lower East Side of Manhattan and Brighton Beach in Brooklyn:
- Kyota Umeki
- Lucinda Jacobson
- Brandon Scott James
- Hank Korsan
Did we mention there’s a branded skateboard? Proper 90s vibes.
Our Favourite Pieces from the Latest Tommy Jeans x AAPE Drop

1. TOMMY X AAPE 2-IN-1 JACKET
Maybe the highlight of the entire collection in our eyes, the 2-in-1 jacket perfectly embodies the Street meets Prep style with a reversible feature that chops and changes based on your style. Inside or out, the jacket features prominent branding by way of collaborative AAPE heads and Tommy motifs. We’re struggling to decide between the colour blocked or plaid side, so we’ll let you choose your own adventure with this one. Big Pants are a must here.

2. TOMMY X AAPE DENIM DUNGAREES
Rigidly structured denim makes its way to these dungarees from Tommy and AAPE. We love the particular hue on these and combined that with the patch pockets and you have a winner. We always recommend opting for a cargo aesthetic when looking at dungarees and these oblige with embroidery and pockets all over. Being a regular fit means these will sit a little baggy, but that’s exactly what the fashion doctor ordered. With some 6-inch boots underneath you’re looking at a serious streetwear fit.

3. TOMMY X AAPE BEANIE
Available in three striking colours that perfectly speak to the street meets prep fusion, this Tommy beanie is made from pure organic cotton and features the classic turn-up cuff. We love the addition of the AAPE embroidered logo on the front with the collaborative branding present throughout. Pair this beanie with anything else from the collection and expect to raise some serious eyebrows as you cruise through the city.
Collaborating to create a high impact streetwear collection, Tommy Jeans and AAPE BY *A BATHING APE have successfully blurred the boundaries between sub-culture, music and fashion. Available from the Tommy Hilfiger website now via the link below and select stores from January 14th 2022.
