Welcome to Sneaker News #46. As the festive season goes into full swing, there are plenty of impressive drops to stuff the stockings with. G-Dragon’s new silhouette for Nike is the headline grabber this week but there are also plenty more impressive releases. Legendary sport’s agent Rich Paul’s classic collaboration with New Balance is fresh while Awake NY’s ASICS collaboration has an eye on the future. There are also new drops from adidas, Air Jordan, and more.
New Balance 57/40
New Balance has transformed one of the most iconic releases in its portfolio, updating the classic 574 with a contemporary switch. The new 57/40 revamps the hybrid road/trail design that made the original 574 famous, but this time around has added a 2021-design approach. On the outside, the New Balance 57/40 is. overall sleeker, highlighted by a unique midsole that combines a flared take on the classic 574 construction with ‘90s tech-inspired details. There is also a little nod to the ’80s with the mudguard and eyerow feature. Priced at AUD$180, the New Balance 57/40 is a blend of old and new in the best possible manner.

Nike Kwondo1 ‘White’
Iconic South Korean artist and designer G-Dragon has come through with another slam-dunk, delivering the Kwondo1. The name is a mash-up of both “Kwon” and “Just Do It” – a nod to the Korean martial art of taekwondo. The brand new silhouette is incredibly fresh, taking the bones of the Pegasus 83 and warping it with brogue detailing and stitching that owes more to bowling and golf shoes. These will hit shelves on 14th December.
New Balance BB50RP1 x Rich Paul
New Balance’s BB50 has been one of the brand’s most sought-after silhouettes of the year and this collaboration is sure to raise its profile. The brand has teamed up with superstar sports agent Rich Paul and is part of a wider clothing range. The colourway on these is blue and crisp, combining both pastel and rich blues with white and cream. They are going to sell out very quickly so you better get yourself in the draw over at Up There.
Nike x sacai x KAWS Blazer Low ‘Purple Dusk’
The Nike x sacai Blazer Low has hit this column many times this year. Last Sneaker News, we detailed the sacai x KAWS wearable art collection and after a quick sell-out, they are already back in another colourway. The purple upper collides with a blue Swoosh and yellow detailing on the laces. The colours are as bold as the silhouette itself – one that will go down as one of the best of the year. Nab them from Nike on 12th December.
Air Jordan 11 ‘Cool Grey’
The Air Jordan 11 is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the ‘Cool Grey’, the shoe that Michael Jordan wore while winning his fourth championship ring. Featuring premium patent and nubuck leathers, these shoes pair tones of grey with an icy blue midsole. Full-length Nike Air cushioning ensures that they’re just as comfortable as they look. New Balance x Casablanca XC-72 ‘Marshmallow’
New Balance and Casablanca’s collaboration will go down as one of the best pairings of the year. Rounding out 2021 with another colourway of the fresh XC-72 silhouette, this is one of the freshest yet. It pairs Marshmallow colourings with brilliant white, as they put it. As with previous releases, chrome-free suede and vintage mesh fabric define the upper while the boundary-pushing mid-sole is defined by the molded toe. Cop them from Subtype “Soon”.

One more New Balance release for the week and this one is a little more classic. The Made In The UK 1500 sneakers are some of the most well-made shoes out there featuring nubuck, perforated leather, and a synthetic upper. The classic ENCAP midsole provides exceptional support meaning you can rack up some serious miles in these. Subtype will have them on sale soon.
ASICS x Awake NY x Gel-Kayano Trainer 21
New York streetwear mainstay Awake NY has given its take on the classics ASICS Gel-Kayano trainer. For a silhouette that’s so familiar, it’s a pretty futuristic take on the shoes. Cream and grey overlays on the upper are met by pops of brown on the toe and a kick of teal and orange on the heel. You can join the draw for these over at Highs And Lows now.
adidas Forum Home Alone
adidas is celebrating the festive season by paying homage to a classic movie. The Forum has been the base for a number of wild collaborations this year from Bad Bunny to Kerwin Frost but this one is for the movie buffs. The red and cream colorway makes them distinctively festive while the tongue features the movie’s logo. Stills from the movie also feature on adjustable sockliners. 10th December is the date you have to look out for these on.
