Ugg guards

Why Are Sneakerheads Adding These UGG Boot Guards to Sneakers?

Our feet get sweaty just thinking about UGG boots, but in the land of sneakers, it’s these guards that have sneakerheads sweating. Never a brand that’s resonated with the Jordan, adidas, and Nike crowd – we’re usually rocking Suicoke’s around the house – the UGG Boot Guard has grabbed the attention of the community for its pragmatic and functional aesthetic.

In a bid to uncover who set the trend, Highsnobiety spoke to Instagram user @iamtolgah who’s often credited for being one of the bigger movers and shakers in the footwear game. He said it’s all about giving dirty shoes a second life “I love giving my shoes and clothes a second life by adding in small bits of creativity. The simplest things you do can result in the most unique twists.”

When Tolgah added the UGG Gaurd to his pair of Salomon XT-6s – a shoe that was only recently treated to the full waterproofing gauntlet thanks to GORE-TEX – it wasn’t long before HiddenNY reposted the image and the internet blew up. Every hypebeast and his dog jumped in on the action and the UGG Guards went from niche UGG accessory to sold out in an instant.

Videos were posted all over social media to showcase how one would best style a UGG Guard, the results from the Nike Dunk community were mixed, with Dunk High’s proving to look more like gumboots. The most success was found in the gorp community, with Arc’tyrex, Salomon, and ACG sneakers proving to be the most popular.

To get your hands on a set of UGG Guards, check out the link below and pick up a pair for $50. This isn’t the first attempt we’ve seen at trend-setting from a brand outside the sneaker community, earlier this year we saw Croc make an attempt at a Balenciaga Mud Boot, the results were mixed. Ultimately, anything is better than Balenciaga’s recent attempt at poking fun at those less fortunate with their adidas Stan Smith.
