Glenturret Triple Wood 2022 Release Scores 99 Points, Wins Single Malt Scotch Whisky Award at IWSC 2023

If you want to know what’s the best whisky to be drinking in 2023, the verdict is officially in. The recent 2023 International Wines and Spirits Competition (IWSC) has just announced the Glenturret Triple Wood 2022 Release as the world’s top single malt Scotch whisky.

Heralding from Highland, Scotland, the Triple Wood 2022 was the only Scotch whisky entry to score an impressive 99 out 0f a possible 100 points. With this high score, the whisky took out a Double Gold Medal and was ranked above all the other Scotch whiskies that entered, which as our guide to whisky will tell you, is no mean feat.

The annual competition is among the largest and most prestigious in the world. Founded in 1969 by Anton Massel, spirits are evaluated on a 100-point scale, and awards are given out for Gold Outstanding (98-100 points), Gold (95-97 points), Silver (90-94 points), and Bronze (85-89 points). The panel named Triple Wood as the best single malt Scotch whisky from a pool of more than 4,000 spirit entries, which makes the fact that its retail value is just $120 pretty impressive, to say the least.

Glenturret is Scotland’s oldest working distillery. Originally known as the Thurot Distillery, its history dates back to at least 1763. The name Glenturret was adopted in 1875, and they are still producing plenty of fine whiskies today.

Want to know what to expect from perhaps the world’s best scotch whisky? The IWSC judging panel described the Triple Wood as “a summer Turkish delight of sweet raisin, marmalade and orange blossom aromas with a rich fruitcake palate, hints of brown sugar and honey, with a creamy toffee texture on the finish.”

Well, if this isn’t enough to have you salivating for its rich, sweet whisky goodness, we don’t know what else will.

At an average price of around $120, the Glenturret Triple Wood offers complex, award-winning whisky for a fairly reasonable price, which is even more reason to grab yourself a bottle, or two. We recommend you get out and grab some bottles sooner rather than later, as once words spread of its nuanced goodness, we won’t be surprised to see it sell out!
