Co-developed with Beyond Meat, the new vegetarian McDonald’s burger reimagines the classic flavours for a more ethically-conscious consumer. According to the fast-food brand, the McPlant arrives with a juicy, plant-based patty made from peas, rice, potatoes, and beetroot, which is served on a sesame seed bun with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise-style sauce, ketchup, mustard and a slice of American cheese.
For long-suffering vegetarians, McDonald’s new announcement marks a serious boost. The hospitality giant confirmed that the McPlant will be available in 270 Macca’s restaurants across Victoria, via the MyMacca’s app and McDelivery, from Monday 4 July – Tuesday 1 November 2022.
It comes after the McPlant scored rave reviews and a swathe of interest overseas. In the United Kingdom and the United States, the burger has firmed as a staple menu item, catering to a booming new category of flexitarians and vegetarian diners. While it may have taken some time for the McPlant to make its way Down Under, it may follow a similar trajectory should consumers buy in.
“Macca’s is always testing new menu items and flavours, as part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and choice,” McDonald’s wrote in a statement. “The McPlant gives customers another delicious menu option, alongside their usual favourites.”
Customers can order the McPlant burger from select McDonald’s stores and also via the MyMacca’s app and McDelivery, from Monday July 4 until – Tuesday November 1, 2022. For more information and a full list of participating restaurants, visit the link below.
