Good news team, the days of making awkward small talk with the infinitely cooler-than-you barista are officially over, thanks to the bigwigs at LG. The South Korean technology company is serving up an ingenious new way to get your morning brew, arriving hot, fresh and from the undercarriage of a tri-legged robotic figure known only as DUOBO. The future is now.

Created by LG Labs, DUOBO is an ‘experimental’ new coffee capsule machine that the brand claims will “revolutionise” the coffee brewing process. By all accounts, the awkward-looking machine arrives with a smattering of features, including a dual-capsule extraction system. This allows for two-shot layered blending, a modern technique for crafting the ultimate in robust and aromatic coffee experiences.
For those with a little spare time on their hands, this addition also opens up the possibility for customisation. If you’re willing to noodle around with different capsule combinations and blends, you can create a signature concoction all of your own.
Naturally, wherever there are robots, there is also usually an app to control them and DUOBO delivers here as well. The mobile app lets you adjust temperatures and pressure to further enhance the customisation options and make sure your coffee journey is as unique as this futuristic machine looks. Best of all, LG hasn’t played the Apple card, instead making sure that DUOBO is compatible with a bunch of different capsule brands, so you can choose your own strengths, roasts and flavours.

As it is an LG product, DUOBO wouldn’t be complete without some kind of immersive screen display and this time around, the South Korean legend has opted for a full HD IPS display. LG claims that this display “adds an extra layer of enjoyment”, which might be a stretch but you can’t help but marvel at the animations and coffee-related information on-screen.
In a sense, this display almost acts as a coffee-themed lava lamp, helping to keep you engaged while you wait for your morning pick-me-up. Not that you’ll be able to keep your eyes off this machine.
Arriving looking eerily like a character from Among Us, the LG DUOBO capsule machine has a design that immediately catches the eye. Sleek, stunning and exquistely finished, it makes you wonder why no one had crafted an appliance like this before, that is, of course, until you see it in motion.
Squeezing out steaming hot espresso from between its three bent legs, the DUOBO leaves little to the imagination. One can only imagine if it had eyes, they would be staring at you with the same sheepish look of vulnerability that your dog does whilst tending to its business.
But guess what? We love dogs and we love the DUOBO. This strangely human coffee machine has already enamoured itself in our hearts and we can’t wait to gather around the kitchen bench excitedly as it pumps out cafe latte after cafe latte. Brew on.
