When you think of tanks, you think of military vehicles that are brutish and powerful. They’re topped with cannons and guns, and the roll into an area with the intention of blowing it all up. You don’t necessarily think of luxury vehicles. But the world’s most luxurious tank, made from a Bentley Continental GT, is now a reality, thanks to a group of Russians (because of course it is).
Called the Ultratank, the machine is a Bentley Continental GT with tank treads in place of its wheels. The build required some tweaks to the powertrain, which turned out OK as the builders had to replace the engine, frame, and drivetrain anyway. They put in a stock 4.3-litre V8; the same engine used in the Toyota Crown Majesta, Celsior, and Soarer, as well as the Lexus GS, LS, and SC 430.
The tank uses a solid rear axle and a torque converter. The Ultratank is still capable of reaching 62 miles per hour, though top speed right now is around 31 miles per hour. The builders still have to figure out what to do about the doors and there are some challenges with the tread tension. Oh, and there aren’t any brakes, but then, why would you want to stop anyway? You’re driving a Bentley with tank treads.
