Lamborghini’s Ultra-Rare Sian Roadster is an 800hp Hybrid V12

If there’s one thing that Automobili Lamborghini knows how to do; it’s make an entrance. The Italian icon has unveiled its new Sian Roadster; a limited-edition, open-top hybrid super sports car that has been engineered around Lamborghini’s classic V12 engine. According to the brand, the new vehicle is the world’s first use of a supercapacitor in a materials-science application unique to the industry. What’s more, the new release cops a roofless design, meaning those lucky enough to take this sleek new ride for a spin can enjoy the open-air rushing through the specially designed cockpit.

From a performance view, the hybrid boasts some seriously impressive numbers, Lamborghini claims the new Sian Roadster produces combined thermal and electric power of 819hp (602kW). Further, a low weight-to-power ratio of 2.0 kg/hp means this beast can go from 0-100kmh in under 2.9 seconds, maxing out at a top speed of over 350kmh. That power comes from the iconic V12 engine, which has been bolstered by the addition of a 48-Volt e-motor in the gearbox. Aside from delivering an additional 34hp, the e-moto also aids in response time and performance, not to mention making the task of reversing and parking more simple.

But while the performance is exciting, it’s the striking appearance of the Lamborghini Sian Roadster that has fans talking. Making its debut in Blu Uranus, the new sports car cuts an impressive figure. Featuring long sculpted contours and characteristic aero wings, the Sian Roadster is unmistakably Lamborghini, but the roofless design adds a new level to the experience. According to Lamborghini, airflow is directed through the front splitters and through the front bonnet, while also through the side air intakes and outlets and over the rear spoiler, with no loss of aerodynamic efficiency. The Sian Roadster also cops active cooling vanes on the rear which are triggered by the reaction of smart-material elements to the temperature generated by the exhaust system.

According to Lamborghini, the new hybrid technology used in the Sian Roadster not only matches that of the brand’s signature sports cars, but also propels the Italian icon forward in its journey towards electrification.

“The Sian Roadster encapsulates the spirit of Lamborghini. It is the expression of breathtaking design and extraordinary performance, but most importantly embodies important future technologies,” Stefano Domenicali, Automobili Lamborghini chairman and chief executive officer said. “The Sian’s innovative hybrid powertrain heralds the direction for Lamborghini super sports cars, and the open-top Sia?n Roadster affirms a desire for the ultimate lifestyle Lamborghini as we move towards a tomorrow demanding electrification.”

The Lamborghini Sian Roadster is limited to only 19 examples, all of which are already sold out.
