As the popular luxury arm of a luxury brand, Mercedes-Maybach already offers a bounty of automotive indulgence. With specs like a lengthly wheelbase, advanced chassis and sumptuous interior, the range itself gives new meaning to the term “first class”. Now Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled a concept car that almost makes the term “first class” feel pedestrian by comparison. Measuring in at 20 feet long, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is what the brand calls automotive haute couture. Imagine a two-door drop-top yacht on wheels and you’re getting even closer.
Aquatic vibes abound on the 6 Cabriolet. Between the toothy front grille and stretched out proportions, the exterior is almost like a cross between a high tech submarine and a Great White Shark. Such visual power and precision is backed up by a 738-hp all-electric powertrain with all-wheel drive. Thanks to that steadfast electric innovation and power, the luxury whip can supposedly last 200 miles on a single charge and go 0-60 mph in less than four seconds. The absence of a traditional engine also allows the twin-centre hinged hood to double as a storage compartment.
Naturally, the roomy interior on the 6 Cabriolet is no less formidable than the sleek exterior. Quilted leather seats take inspiration from Chesterfield sofas and come flanked by open-pore wood panels and futuristic blue lights. Drop the top and it becomes a 360 open air lounge. Rounding out the luxury theme are intuitive touch controls and a voice-activated concierge system.
In spite of its futuristic charms, the 6 Cabriolet manages to retain a classic vintage aesthetic. It’s also been likened to the Cadillac Elmiraj concept that debuted in 2013 to wide acclaim. Comparisons aside, this is a best of all-worlds stunner that announces itself at first look. Here’s hoping the dream one day becomes a reality.
