- The MOONSWATCH 1965 pays tribute to the original timepiece’s flight qualification in 1965.

OMEGA and Swatch have released a new MOONSWATCH, and it’s not a Moonphase, Earthphase, or Snoopy variation. No, this Moonswatch 1965 model is the one that fans have been asking for with a clean white dial, heritage logos, and plenty of fine details on the chronograph display that pay homage to the original Speedmaster ST105.003 from 1964.
It’s been 60 years since that specific Speedmaster model was worn during the Gemini IV mission (June 3, 1965) on the first American spacewalk. The only watch to pass NASA’s rigorous tests, the OMEGA release was flight-qualified by NASA on March 1, 1965, and used on all manned space missions. However, this Bioceramic variant won’t stand up to rigorous tests of the original, which included withstanding temperatures as high as 93°C and as low as -18°C for 4 hours. Still, it’s a very clean, good-looking alternative to a watch worth more than AUD$14,000 on the secondary market today.
The MOONSWATCH 1965 (AUD$435) will be released in select Swatch stores worldwide (in-store only) from March 1, 2025. If you’re shopping in Australia, you’ll find it at Melbourne, Collins Street, Perth, Murray Street Mall, Sydney, Pitt Street Mall, and Chermside, Westfield Chermside. There is a purchase limit of one watch per person, per day, per store.

This watch is an homage to the original, and it includes plenty of heritage elements and unique touches on the chronograph display. You’ll find the original OMEGA logo on the dial, strap, and crown. Then, retro-style hands and typeface, and finally, the highlight of this MOONSWATCH, a white dial that is a nod to the sought-after 2024 Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional.
Look closer and you’ll notice changes to the chronograph counter display, including:
- 10 o’clock counter shows “19” (instead of 60).
- 2 o’clock counter shows “65” (instead of 10).
- 6 o’clock small seconds counter shows “60”, symbolizing the 60th anniversary.
- Numbers 19, 65, and 60 are visible under UV light.
Finally, the same Super-LumiNova coating is applied to the hands and hour markers for night visibility and a Gray VELCRO (similar to those worn over space suits) is applied to the strap. Of course, if you want to swap this out for a more comfortable alternative, the brand recently released some rubber options.

Again, this new MOONSWATCH 1965 is being released on the anniversary of the day the original Speedmaster ST105.003 was flight-qualified by NASA. Here’s a look at the extreme durability tests that the original had to go through back in the day:
- High temperature (up to 93°C).
- Low temperature (-18°C for 4 hours).
- Vacuum test (temperature cycling in a vacuum chamber).
- Humidity test (95% humidity, 25–70°C).
- Corrosion resistance (exposure to oxygen at 70°C).
- Shock resistance (six 40 G shocks).
- Acceleration test (up to 16 G).
- Low-pressure test (10⁻⁶ atmosphere at 93°C).
- High-pressure test (1.6 atmospheres for 60 minutes).
- Vibration test (5–2000 Hz random vibrations).
- Sound test (130 decibels for 30 minutes).
Of course, this new Bioceramic variant will not withstand the sheer pressure and heat of the original, but it has a water resistance of 3 bar (30m) so you can at least wear it in the shower if you want, and it won’t have trouble with light rain.
If you’re as taken by the white dial as we are, the MOONSWATCH 1965 (AUD$435) will be released in select Swatch stores worldwide (in-store only) from March 1, 2025. If you’re shopping in Australia, you’ll find it at Melbourne, Collins Street, Perth, Murray Street Mall, Sydney, Pitt Street Mall, and Chermside, Westfield Chermside. There is a purchase limit of one watch per person, per day, per store.
