Mercedes-Maybach has detailed local market specifications for its updated luxury saloon lineup, bringing a new V8 powertrain option alongside the returning twin-turbo V12 flagship. The expanded range introduces the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC mild-hybrid V8 alongside the top-tier Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4MATIC twin-turbo V12. Pre-orders are now open across Australian dealerships, with local pricing starting from AUD$517,900 before on-road costs for the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC.

Marking 140 years of automobile development for Mercedes-Benz and 105 years for the Maybach nameplate, the updated saloon pairs handcrafted combustion engines with new supercomputer architecture. The flagship Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4MATIC (from AUD$582,428 before on-roads) retains its handcrafted 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine producing 621 HP (463 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque. Joining the lineup, the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC uses a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine mated to a 48-volt integrated starter-generator producing 530 hp (395 kW) plus 23 hp (17 kW) of electric boost.

Order books are now open, with local vehicle deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Standard specification for Australian models includes 4.5-degree rear-axle steering, AIRMATIC air suspension, and the purpose-built MB.OS digital platform. Local buyers can personalise their vehicles through the bespoke MANUFAKTUR program, which includes unique exterior paint finishes and custom cabin upholstery options, such as Beech Brown.

Illuminated Grille and MB.OS Cockpit Technology

Exterior updates are headlined by a front grille that is 20 per cent larger than the outgoing model, incorporating a subtly illuminated Maybach wordmark inside the frame.

DIGITAL LIGHT micro-LED headlamp units also receive rose gold accents, expanding the high-resolution illumination field by 40 per cent up to a distance of 600 metres (1,968 feet). Meanwhile, the redesigned front and rear bumpers accompany updated tail lamp graphics, while 20-inch Maybach forged alloy wheels feature an internal ball-bearing mechanism to keep the central star upright while driving.

When we take a look inside, the introduction of the purpose-built MB.OS supercomputer underpins fourth-generation MBUX infotainment. Operating on Nvidia hardware, the platform powers the standard MBUX Superscreen, which integrates a 14.4-inch central touchscreen and a front passenger display beneath a single glass sheet.

Drivers display features rose gold dials set against textured gold, rose gold, and black backdrops. The software stack manages over-the-air updates, biometric user authentication profiles, and real-time MBUX Surround Navigation. “Thermal comfort” features include heated front seat belts that warm up to 44 degrees Celsius (111 degrees Fahrenheit) to reduce the number of clothing layers (they didn’t say drive it nude), while the heated steering wheel and heated armrests mean you don’t have to wear gloves.

Rear occupants access two 13.1-inch displays via the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment system with individual remote controls and integrated video call cameras. Audio comes via a 31-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system supplying 1,610 watts through eight seat-integrated exciters, while the AIR BALANCE electric filtration system refreshes cabin air every 90 seconds

Twin-Turbo V12 or Mild-Hybrid V8

The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4MATIC retains its handcrafted 6.0-litre M 279M twin-turbo V12 petrol engine. Peak power stands at 621 hp (463 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, which is nearly matched by the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC, which joins the range with an M177 EVO twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with a 48-volt integrated starter-generator.

This V8 unit produces 530 hp (395 kW) with an additional 23 hp (17 kW) electric boost, alongside 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque backed by a temporary 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) surge.

Both variants send power through a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive, completing the 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) sprint in 4.5 seconds.

Standard AIRMATIC air suspension handles chassis control, while the S 580 adds E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL with Car-to-X obstacle detection. Vehicle sensors detect speed bumps and store telemetry in the cloud for up to 14 days, allowing equipped vehicles to adjust suspension damping proactively upon approach. Urban manoeuvrability is assisted by standard 4.5-degree rear-axle steering, with an optional 10-degree rear-axle steering system available to reduce the turning circle further.

Price and Availability

The Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC is priced from AUD$517,900 before on-road costs. Meanwhile, the flagship Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4MATIC is priced from AUD$582,428.

Buyers looking to expand standard equipment can add targeted factory option packages:

• First-Class Package costs AUD$24,200 (approx. USD$16,000) on either model, converting the rear seating area into a four-seat layout with two individual rear seats separated by an extended centre console, adding a refrigerated compartment and silver champagne flutes.
• The Night Series package adds AUD$34,900 (approx. USD$23,000), introducing exclusive seven-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels, darkened Maybach emblems, illuminated door sill panels finished in Dark Shadow Gloss, black MANUFAKTUR nappa leather upholstery, a nappa leather roof liner, anthracite open-pore walnut wood trim arranged in a herringbone pattern, and a high-gloss black key with Dark Shadow Gloss accents.

Individual personalisation can then be added via the MANUFAKTUR program. Custom MANUFAKTUR Exclusive exterior paint finishes cost AUD$24,300 (approx. USD$16,000), while tailored interior upholstery combinations such as Beech Brown add AUD$27,600.

Pre-orders opened at Australian dealerships on 27 August 2026, with first customer vehicle arriving in the first quarter of 2027.
