For the affluent Australian consumer, the definition of status has irrevocably shifted. The days when luxury was strictly defined by the blind accumulation of material goods are being left well and truly behind by younger generations. Today, real status is defined by the experiential and the ability to access exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime events and experiences behind the red curtain.

To better understand this cultural shift in what defines modern status, I was invited by Revolut to experience firsthand the kind of access their Ultra subscription delivers for Aussies looking to unlock closed doors and flex on their next adventure. And what better place to test that out than one of the most premium fixtures on the global sporting calendar: The Singapore Grand Prix.

Over a three-day blur of trackside vantage points, private pit lane walks, and behind-the-scenes action inside the Audi Revolut F1 garage, one thing became crystal clear: ultimate luxury isn’t about what you own, but the stories you can tell through lived experience. After putting everything the tier has to offer through its paces, it’s evident that an Ultra lifestyle doesn’t just open exclusive doors; it gives frequent flyers an easier way to access premium perks.

Revolut Ultra Benefits at a Glance

Before packing my bags on this once-in-a-lifetime trip, I wanted to have a look under the hood of the Revolut app to see what makes the Ultra tier the ultimate travel companion. One thing became abundantly clear: this isn’t just a shiny piece of metal designed to sit quietly in a designer wallet. It functions as a practical travel wallet designed to cut foreign transaction friction, handle the financial admin overseas, and deliver tangible everyday value long after you touch down.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s in the kit:

  • The Card: 17g platinum-plated physical card.
  • Travel Perks: Unlimited airport lounge access and fast-track security, up to AU$3,500 in fee-free global ATM withdrawals per month, and a 100% discount on international transfer fees.
  • Global Connectivity: 3GB of monthly global eSIM data.
  • Seamless Spending & Wealth: Fee-free global FX across 40+ currencies, up to 5.3% p.a. (variable) interest paid daily on savings, up to 1 RevPoint per AU$1 spent, and 10 commission-free stock trades a month.
  • Lifestyle Subscriptions: Up to AU$7,000 in annual value, including Financial Times Premium Digital, 20 monthly ClassPass credits, MasterClass Full, 3 monthly WeWork passes, ChatGPT Go, The Athletic, NordVPN, Tinder Gold, and Super Duolingo.

Having that entire arsenal loaded onto my phone and tucked into my pocket, it was time to see how the perks held up in the real world.

Field Test: Using Revolut Ultra in Singapore & Europe

Previewing the itinerary before departing for Singapore, it was clear the itinerary pulled out all the stops. But while the headline events showcased the specific VIP perks bundled into the tier, what caught me off guard was how meticulously Revolut engineered the entire plan around eliminating the friction of actual travel. The second the wheels hit the tarmac in the Lion City, the usual cross-border headache was already solved: thanks to the bundled global eSIM loaded with 3GB of monthly data, I had instant connectivity, completely bypassing the archaic scramble for spotty terminal Wi-Fi and dodging the dread of exorbitant roaming bills.

That seamlessness wasn’t just confined to Singapore, either. Having spent the weeks prior travelling through Italy and the UK with friends and family, the unlimited airport lounge access was an immediate standout. Trading the obligatory overpriced beer at a chaotic airport bar for the calm of a private lounge stripped the usual exhaustion right out of transit, making the travel days feel genuinely sophisticated and relaxed.

Experiencing that consistency across every stop, from Sydney and London down to Verona, made the Ultra lifestyle feel impossible to walk away from. Better yet, Revolut’s RevPoints system, which earns flexible loyalty points on everyday spending without requiring you to carry a debt-driven balance, allowed me to cover lounge passes for my partner for a fraction of the cost. It proves you don’t need to hoard millions of complex airline miles or jump through traditional credit card hoops to share the perks once gatekept by legacy high-tier cardholders.

Saturday shifted the pace. It started with a free-flowing Champagne brunch at Sentosa’s Fiamma, followed by a deeply restorative wellness session at the Auriga Spa at Capella Singapore. By the time our entrée was served at the Magic Table at Andaz Singapore, I was able to convert my AUD to SGD in under a minute. Revolut Ultra offers fee-free global FX across 40+ currencies, meaning every transaction felt as local and effortless as tapping a card for a coffee in Sydney.

Sunday was reserved for the spectacle. After a morning wandering Gardens by the Bay and a sky-high lunch at Spago in Marina Bay Sands, I was transported into the sensory overload of the Paddock Club. Watching the Formula 1 cars tear through the street circuit from the Audi Revolut F1 garage is a visceral, once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s an adrenaline hit that no ordinary grandstand ticket can match.

Disrupting the “Spaghetti on the Wall” Approach

But how did a financial platform become the golden ticket to this level of experiential luxury? I sat down with Tara Massoudi, Revolut’s Global Head of Premium Products, to find out.

“For us, it’s always been about the experience,” Massoudi explains. “You’ve got one end of the spectrum, which is the F1, that’s a very unique, luxury, once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. But the foundation of Revolut was built on the basis of: when you travel, FX rates are awful, and that was a really bad experience… How can we make that experience and travel nicer and smoother?”

Unlike traditional banks, which Massoudi points out often “…throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks,” Revolut operates much more like a Silicon Valley tech incubator. Every new feature goes through a heavily vetted internal program called “New Bets,” ensuring that every addition, from localised eSIMs to unlimited airport lounge and fast-track access, solves a genuine problem for the global traveller.

When designing the Ultra plan, Revolut didn’t just guess what premium customers wanted. They analysed real transaction data: where their top-tier users travelled, which airlines they flew, and what lifestyle subscriptions they paid for at home. The result is a bundled ecosystem that perfectly maps to a high-end lifestyle, providing up to AU$7,000 in annual value.

Alongside complimentary access to Financial Times Premium Digital, MasterClass Full, and 20 monthly credits for ClassPass, the suite expands into nearly every facet of modern living. That includes three monthly WeWork passes, 12 months of ChatGPT Go for enhanced AI performance, and unlimited access to The Athletic, Super Duolingo, Headway Premium, Tinder Gold, and NordVPN with 1TB of encrypted cloud storage.

The 17g Platinum Card: Premium Perks vs Traditional Credit

Of course, in a world dominated by digital wallets and Apple Pay, tactile luxury still holds its ground. Massoudi acknowledges this duality. “The card is the only tangible, physical part of the subscription, so for us, it was quite an important one,” she says.

The result is a stunning 17-gram platinum-plated card that underwent intense engineering to ensure it had the perfect weight, aesthetic, and slide. It’s a statement piece, yes, but it also represents a fundamental shift in banking philosophy. “Credit cards rely on you doing bad behaviour for them to make money,” Massoudi points out. “If you don’t pay your credit card, you pay interest, you pay late payment fees.”

That’s really where Revolut Ultra departs from the traditional debt-driven rewards structure. Instead of the outdated credit card trap that relies on late fees, crazy interest rates, and sneaky charges just to subsidise a handful of mediocre perks, Ultra runs on a straightforward subscription that actually pays for itself. You pay the upfront subscription, and the tangible value stacks up immediately across both everyday life and high-end travel.

On the wealth side, you’re looking at high-yield savings earning up to 5.3% p.a. (variable) interest paid out daily on balances up to AU$250,000, 10 commission-free stock trades a month, and racking up RevPoints on daily spend without carrying debt. Then, take it overseas: with up to AU$3,500 in fee-free global ATM withdrawals every rolling month, zero international transfer fees, and comprehensive travel protection built right in, the usual financial anxiety of being on the road completely evaporates.

Live the Ultra Lifestyle

A weekend at the Singapore Grand Prix was the ultimate showcase of what this lifestyle actually means. The sheer sensory rush of the night race, the private pit lane walks, and standing trackside inside the Audi Revolut F1 garage were genuine bucket-list highlights. But the true luxury wasn’t just having a VIP pass around my neck, it was having an effortless, borderless system humming away in my pocket the whole time. It wiped out the friction, handled the currency logistics, and let me focus entirely on living the experience.
