Horn vs Tszyu

The Horn vs Tszyu battle has been a long-awaited bout for Aussie boxing fans. For months, the pair has teased us with petty squabbles played out on a national stage, but come Wednesday night, we’ll find out who Australia’s premier fighter is. Tszyu, 25, rattled off three straight wins in 2019 against Joel Camilleri, Dwight Ritchie, and Jack Brubaker to set up the fight. Horn, 32, went toe to toe with Michael Zerafa last year; exacting his revenge in the December rematch after being stopped by the middleweight 12 months ago. The strong performances from both Aussie fighters has fans predicting Horn vs Tszyu might go down in the record books as an all-time great bout, but the build-up has been far from smooth.

Reports of corruption overshadowed the weigh-in on Tuesday after Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton made explosive allegations about Tszyu having an unfair advantage. According to Rushton, Tszyu has been training at a gym owned by one of the judges, a former cornerman for his famous father, ex-light welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu. Governing body, the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) has already confirmed no judges will be swapped out for the fight, though, meaning there could be contention should Tszyu take hold the chocolates.

Speaking of, both fighters were required to weigh in under the 69.85kg limit to qualify for the super welterweight division. On Tuesday, Tszyu came in at 69.1kg, while Horn just snuck in at 69.9kg. The fight will be for Tim Tszyu’s IBF Australasian super welterweight and WBO Global super welterweight titles.
