Earlier today, ASICS Australia unveiled the much anticipated 2019 Wallabies Rugby World Cup jersey and well… we’re actually pretty stoked with how it turned out.
Just shy of sixty years ago, the Wallabies first donned green and gold that we know so well today. Since then, the jersey has undergone numerous alterations – some not always for the best. Many rugby fans saw the star spangled 2015 RWC Jersey closer to canary yellow than gold. So, we waited with bated breath to see what ASICS had in store for us this time round.
All our trepidations were appeased this morning at the Carriageworks in Sydney’s inner west. It seems, ASISC has been listening and the 2019 Rugby World Cup Jersey keeps things simple, stupid. The banana flavour of 2015 has been traded in for a deep gold with dark green trim. Its simplistic facade harks back to the first short sleeved competition jumper from 1995, however with state of the art technological advancements.
“The jersey is an excellent balance between fast and strong. ASICS have achieved the most technologically advanced jersey to help give our boys the advantage in Japan” said Bernard Foley.
With a clear emphasise on performance over aesthetics, the new jersey has a number of unique design elements that will compliment the playing style and technical requirements of the Qantas Wallabies.
CEO of Rugby Australia, Raelene Castle said “ASICS have put a great amount of detail and focus into the jersey and it will help give the team an edge in what is sure to be a very competitive tournament.
“I know the Wallabies are very excited to pull on the jersey when they run out in Japan and just how desperate they are to make all Australians proud.”
With just over three months until the Rugby World Cup in Japan it’s time to stock up with all your supporter gear. I know ole mate, John Howard will have already put in a preorder for his green and gold tracksuit.
