‘Go Off King’: King Charles’ Sunglasses Were the Star of the Show in Sydney

Part-time King and part-time fashion influencer King Charles III drew attention to his choice of sunglasses while visiting Sydney on Tuesday, October 22nd. The King was photographed wearing MOSCOT Lemtosh sunglasses in a ‘Flesh’ colourway with green lenses as he stood awaiting fans at the Sydney Opera House.

The MOSCOT brand is one of the biggest names in eyewear, worn by celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, Ryan Gosling, Lebron James, Helena Bonham Carter, and Mila Kunis. It has been a family-run business out of New York City for generations. Their sunglasses are premium, handcrafted, and made from Italian acetate, so it’s hardly surprising the pair King Charles was wearing retails at around AUD$530.

“The Moscot Lemtosh is one of the most iconic styles from the New York-based MOSCOT, known for its vintage, timeless appeal and lower east side roots,” says Proper Goods CEO and MOSCOT Australia & New Zealand custodian, Ben Walters. “The Lemtosh frame is a classic of the MOSCOT collection with stylistic roots dating back to the 1940’s. Overall the Lemtosh is a timeless design that embodies Moscot’s heritage, offering a mix of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary style.”

“I’m unable to prophesise on this absolutely, but as I understand it, His Majesty King Charles III is a loyal MOSCOT customer.”

MOSCOT sunglasses are handmade using the highest quality acetate, a durable plastic alternative that provides a longer lifespan to wearers. All hardware is affixed in time-honoured ways, with real riveting holding the frame together. The lenses in King’s model of choice are made of mineral glass, which provides better optical clarity and scratch resistance.

Most importantly, for those like us with a big head, the Lemtosh is offered in three different sizes so a bespoke fit is possible to many different face shapes and sizes.

We’ve been lucky enough to own a few pairs of Lemtosh sunglasses over the years, and the Lemtosh’s popularity can be attributed to its combination of classic aesthetics, comfort, and versatility. Whether worn as prescription eyewear or sunglasses, they appeal to those who appreciate a vintage style. The classic, slightly rounded shape continues to be favoured by business people, creatives, and icons of the time, which helps to continue the Lemtosh legacy.

So how has King Charles III influenced the sales of this brand so far? Proper Goods CEO and MOSCOT Australia & New Zealand custodian, Ben Walters, says the brand has been fielding calls over the last 24 hours.

“Proper Goods, the local distributor of MOSCOT does not sell direct to consumers, however we have been fielding many calls over the last 24 hours from our wholesale customers, select fashion stores, and luxury independant opticians looking to replenish their stock of this particular model.”
