Oris Big Crown Calibre 473

Oris has unveiled its latest piece for 2023 with the new Big Crown Calibre 473. The Big Crown Calibre 473 features a new manufacture movement in the Oris Calibre 473, which I’ll get to in a second. The Big Crown Calibre 473 is housed in a 38mm wide and 12.70mm thick stainless steel case with an exhibition caseback, has a distinct blue dial and that very typical look of an Oris Big Crown timepiece.

But the proverbial cherry on top here is Oris’ new Calibre 473. What we have is a hand-wound movement with a five-day power reserve and a 10-year guarantee with a recommended service interval of 10 years. The power reserve indicator is on the caseback side, and all in all the Calibre 473 is a very aesthetically pleasing movement through and through.

OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing

OMEGA has announced its first new Speedmaster of 2023 with the new OMEGA Speedmaster Super Racing. The Speedmaster Super Racing is distinctly different from the conventional Speedmaster Moonwatch model. The dial is different with a distinct pattern, it is adorned with touches of yellow, as is the bezel. And it’s bigger, much bigger.

But there’s another difference. The OEMGA Speedmaster Super Racing is powered by the maison’s new Co-Axial Master Chronometer 9920. This movement has a very novel and very innovative addition in the form of the new Spirate hairsping system, enabling the 9920 movement to boast an accuracy of 0/+2 seconds a day. That kind of accuracy is absolutely insane, even more so for a mechanical wristwatch with all of its appropriated deviations e.g. positioning, shocks, temperature differences, etc. OMEGA really is leading the charge at the very least from a chronometry performance perspective.

Brand: OMEGA

Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Limited Edition

New from Seiko is the Prospex Speedtimer Limited Edition reference SRQ045. This particular reference is based on Seiko’s very first stopwatch designed as the official timing device at a major winter sporting event held in Sapporo in 1972. The colour scheme of the new Prospex Speedtimer Limited Edition draws inspiration from the original stopwatch, including a black aesthetic highlighted with red.

The SRQ045 is an interesting piece, further extended by the fact that it’s powered by Seiko’s in-house calibre 8R46. This is a mechanical chronograph with column wheel and vertical clutch architecture. All in all, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer Limited Edition does have a lot going for it despite it costing a rather high AUD4,700.

Reference Number: SRQ045
Diameter: 42.5mm

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit

Last but not least is the new Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit. Made to commemorate the Year of the Rabbit, the new Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit was designed by the enlightened artist Wen Na, who created a vivid display on the dial of the piece celebrating the sacred and auspicious nature of the rabbit.

The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit comes in a black ceramic case with a matching bezel and is powered by Hublot’s HUB1710 automatic calibre. The Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Black Ceramic Rabbit is a fun, free-spirited timepiece that embodies not only the celebrations of the Year of the Rabbit, but also of Hublot’s approach to its watchmaking.
