The Sydney based specialty coffee roaster Toby’s Estate exudes an authentic and rich passion for coffee and connectivity that shines at this much-anticipated flagship venue. Upon entering, the first thing you may notice is the mirrors perched overhead, offering you a birds-eye view of the baristas making your coffee. Towards the back, a glassed wall is an opening into the roastery where you get a glimpse at the intricate world of coffee making and all that goes on behind the scenes.
In something unseen in traditional cafes, the barista is on the same side as you, rather than behind a bar. This means you can feel just as much as part of the coffee-making experience, and watch on as Toby Estate’s gun baristas do their thing. As a result, the flagship store breaks down the barriers between baristas and the customer. Choose to perch yourself on any table in the cafe, or, for those wanting the full package, take a seat at the island brew bar will you will get to ask questions, get involved, and trial some of their finest filter coffees and anything else you so desire.
“The whole space is geared towards interactions, you can sit at the bar and watch coffee be made, or you can take a table and talk to your waiter about the options… Whether you’re new to coffee or advanced in your knowledge, our Chippendale team will meet you at your level and help guide you one step further in your coffee journey,” said Jack Stapelfeldt, Flagship Manager.
The coffee menu begins with a handy colour wheel to help you grasp an understanding of the flavours and all the lingo. From there, the menu itself offers a monthly rotation of single origins, limited edition blends and a reserve menu. And whilst coffee is the main event here, there is a small food menu for guests looking to grab a bite to eat, with pastries, toasties and baguettes all up for grabs. The venue is also the home base for their local Brew Runner service that delivers specialty coffee to your door!
In our visit, we found the combination of quality service from friendly and passionate staff to produce one of the most unique coffee experiences you will ever receive. We have no doubt you will leave the venue with a deeper love and appreciation for coffee than you could ever imagine.
