We’ve been riding the ‘traditional menswear’ train as of late and with the arrival of J.Crew’s Fall 2022 collection, it doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon. Led by designer Brendon Babenzien – of Supreme and Noah fame – the collection draws obvious vibes from early Ralph, and lately, the likes of Aime Leon Dore, Our Legacy, and Corridor.
Tasked with the next-to-impossible task of reviving the J.Crew brand from bankruptcy filings in 2020, his first collection returns to the root of what made the brand special, while addressing the poor quality materials that did so much reputational damage in the first place. How’s the reception been for the new collection? Quick, fast, and sometimes sold out.

One glance at a Noah Lookbook and you can see where Babenzien found his inspiration. Going so far as to use the same email address for both his Noah and J.Crew business accounts. In a feature article with GQ, Babenzien mentioned his first priority was to overhaul the brand’s fabric assortment and the Fall 2022 collection features an ideal use of heavy-weight cotton, denim, and knits. Disassociating fans of the brand with the awkward-fitting t-shirts and once-reliable suits that seemed to track the brands decline, is in our eyes, the most important change made.
Next came the reinvention of cuts – the aesthetic remains mostly J.Crew – but with a choice of quality garments that draw and adapt to today’s best fashion trends. We particularly love the Giant Fit Chino trouser that’s available with or without an embroidered canoe and features a wide spacious cut with midweight 8.5-ounce 100 per cent cotton twill construction. Layering these over a pair of penny loafers is about as timeless as it gets. Speaking of which, the ‘Camden’ penny loafers, are available in navy and burgundy (our favourite) alongside vintage merlot, dark walnut, and classic black.
The chinos revive a key piece from the 90s and reconfigure the design for today alongside a host of other pieces such as the cable-knit sweater in cashmere, camp pants in slub cotton, and dock shorts.
