Representing a match made in high tech heaven, Russian accessories company Caviar has finally released the iPhone X Tesla, which hosts a large solar panel on the back. Because the solar panel is built into the phone, the device packs some serious heft, coming in at 16.2 mm thick. Speaking of heft, the new iPhone X Tesla will be offered at the bloated price of over $4,500 USD. Here’s hoping any future solar-powered smartphones will be somewhat more affordable. On the other hand, it is quite a sharp-looking, limited edition device.
Not only was Caviar’s iPhone X Tesla directly inspired by Nikola Tesla, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk, but the first unit will go to Musk himself. It will come with the engraving “Made on Earth by Humans”, a sly reference to Musk’s SpaceX company. As for the other 998 units, they tout a formidable and impressive design. Surrounding the solar panel is an eye-catching carbon fibre case. Also featured are anodised buttons on the sides, and gilded details on the rear. The phone offers IP67 water and dust resistance, which is a good thing because the last thing you want is a $4,500 smartphone that breaks easily.
Caviar is offering the iPhone X Tesla in two variants, one with 64GB of storage and another with 256GB of storage. Before payment is received, the phone will be thoroughly inspected, with every transaction “accompanied by a personal consultant”. Indeed, the future is looking bright, albeit quite expensive.
