Jeff Cavaliere of Athlean-X.com takes a look at one of the most common push-ups around. In the video, Cavaliere takes a look at 33 variations, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. Cavaliere covers the variation with one thought in mind: find the version that challenges you. “If you’re still doing the same old classic push-up because that’s what you’re good at, then you’re not going to be challenging your body to get any stronger, any better, any different than it is today.”

The video walks you through the basic movement and a few ways to step that up as you progress to an intermediate level. In that middle range, you’ll find plenty of variations to keep you busy building more strength and ability. It’s when you hit the advanced stage that you start to see some of the impossible moves, yet Cavaliere makes even these moves look simple and easy to perform. Cavaliere makes an excellent point about push-ups, and any exercise for that matter. If you only ever do one exercise, then your body will adapt and you’ll stop progressing. If you change things up a bit, you’ll have greater dividends off of our investment. Sure, you can be one of those guys that can pound out hundreds of push-ups with little effort, or you can use the variations shown to improve your physique and capacity for performance.

“The bottom line is this,” says Cavaliere, “the way you do the push-up can challenge you in many, many different ways. You can work on your power, you can work on your strength, you can work on your coordination, you can work on your endurance, there’s many, many ways to work a push-up into your routine. It’s choosing the right one and knowing how to challenge yourself with it.” If you’re looking to change how you do your push-up routine, and you want to improve over all, then this video has what you need.
