The home of former mafia boss Paul Castellano, known as the “Boss of the Bosses,” has been listed for sale at 177 Benedict Rd, Staten Island, NY 10304 for USD$18,000,000 (approx. AUD$28,000,000).
Castellano built the four-storey residence in 1980 and lived in the mega-mansion until his assassination in 1985. It’s sitting on a 1.58-acre estate and comes with eight grand ensuite bedrooms, each with private bathroom access, a 13-car showroom-style garage, a commercial-grade designer kitchen, temperature-controlled wine cellar, solarium, indoor and outdoor Olympic-sized pools, and so much more. It’s clear the mob boss knew how to spend his millions before he was shot and killed outside of Sparks Steak House on Monday, December 16, 1985.
Listed by RJM Realty Empire Inc., the property has been on Zillow for more than 173 days and despite receiving a whopping 44,074 views and 2,314 saves, it has struggled to find a buyer. While long removed from its mafia past, it’s evident that buyers aren’t interested in the lavish marble bathrooms and period wallpaper, or maybe it’s the property’s history instead. Let’s take a closer look!

Mafia Boss Paul Castellano’s Staten Island Mega-Mansion
- Price: $18,000,000
- Location: 177 Benedict Rd, Staten Island, NY 10304
- Size: 33,000 sq ft across four levels
- Lot: 1.58 acres
- Built: 2000 (most recent changes)
- Style: Colonial
The residence itself measures 33,000 square feet and is situated in the prestigious Todt Hill area, where former closer for the New York Mets, John Franco, also lives. It’s found behind private gates for maximum seclusion and privacy, and provides unobstructed views of the Verrazano Bridge out towards John F. Kennedy Airport.
With eight bedrooms and 17 bathrooms throughout the mega-mansion (15 full, one three-quarter, and one half-bath), there’s ample space for you and your extended family to enjoy the state-of-the-art home theatre, temperature-controlled wine cellar, private library, solarium, home gym, private sauna, in-home beauty salon, and indoor and outdoor Olympic-sized pools. However, what we’re most excited about is the 13-car showroom-style garage.
While it doesn’t come with the Ferrari F8, SF90, Maserati MC20, or the insane Ferrari Monza SP2 (worth around USD$3.5 million), the garage is the perfect place for any collector to store their most prized possessions while they keep the rest of their collection off-site. And if you’re not a collector, it would be helpful for multi-vehicle households as well.

If sold, 177 Benedict Rd, Staten Island, NY 10304 would set a new record for Staten Island by a considerable margin. However, as the days continue to count on this sale, other prestigious houses in the area continue to set the benchmark.
Across the road, 176 Benedict Rd, Staten Island, recently set a new record sale for the borough after being listed for $8.95 million in September 2024 with the Corcoran Group and then going under contract for an undisclosed amount in recent months.
The listed price of USD$18 million is more than double the amount paid for the house across the road. However, it’s also USD$1.2 million more than the original USD$16.8 million price agents had the property listed for when it was put on the market in October 2023. It sat on the market for 12 months and failed to sell before RJM Realty Empire Inc. took over and listed it for the disclosed price. Now, it’s been on the market for more than 170 days and has failed to find a buyer.
