Shocking First Glimpse of Colin Farrell in ‘The Penguin’ Spin-Off Series Revealed

The Penguin is waddling his way back onto our screens, and this time it’s for his own spin-off TV series. And for the first time, Colin Farrell has been spotted on set, once again donning the iconic prosthetics and purple blazer of Oswald The Penguin Cobblepot. Surprisingly, the handsome Irishman has managed to make himself look even uglier than the last time.

The pictures show Farrell, who is reprising his role, wearing a purple blazer paired with black suit trousers and suspenders. The actor has undergone extensive prosthetic work, as he did in 2022’s The Batman to transform into the DC Comics villain, complete with facial scars and a receding hairline. HOT. In another snap, Farrell’s Penguin is about to step into a flashy-looking purple car complete with gold rims. While we think it looks kind of cool, it’s probably enough to make our automotive writers puke.

This eight-episode series, helmed by The Batman director Matt Reeves, promises to give us a deeper look into the dark and twisted world of Gotham’s most notorious mobster. While the plot has been kept under wraps, rumours have suggested the series will focus on The Penguin’s rise within the Falcone crime family.

Starring alongside Farrell, How I Met Your Mother actress Cristin Milioti will play Gotham crime lord Carmine Falcone’s daughter Sofia, while the recently announced The Mandalorian star Clancy Brown will play Salvatore Maroni – the man responsible for disfiguring Harvey Dent.

Farrell is thrilled to be returning to the streets of Gotham, telling Digital Spy, “The world that Matt Reeves created for The Batman is one that warrants a deeper gaze through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. I couldn’t be more excited about continuing this exploration of Oz as he rises through the darkened ranks to become The Penguin. will be good to get him back on the streets of Gotham for a little madness and a little mayhem.”

But the best part of this whole situation? Apparently, Farrell had no idea he would be reprising his role as Penguin when he first took on the part in The Batman! According to the actor, “The only thing I had an idea was that I wasn’t nearly getting to explore the character as much as I wanted to. There was all this extraordinary work done by makeup and prosthetics artists Mike Marino and Mike Fontaine and his team, and I just thought it was the tip of the iceberg, pardon the pun, that we were getting to do the six or seven scenes that we did in the film. I was grateful for them, but I wanted more.”

He added, “Honest to God, any thoughts I had about an extended series was to do with Mike Marino’s work. I just know there was so much to do with this. Age it up, age it down. He’s just a genius, Mike, so it was his work that was the inspiration really.”

The Penguin spin-off series will hopefully satisfy your cravings for the Caped Crusader’s universe. While the release date is still under wraps, the cameras are rolling and it looks like we’ll be seeing the devious villain on HBO Max in 2024, before The Batman 2 drops in 2025.
