Having been caught up in a flurry after laying eyes on JW Anderson’s ‘Pigeon Clutch’ earlier this week, it’s about time we turn our eye to some real fashion, isn’t it? MONCLER is delivering its 2 MONCLER 1952 FW22 collection hot off the press through the eyes of Sergio Zambon, a master who’s worked his magic once again through the lens of club culture and all things sensory escapism.
London baby, it’s the city that birthed this culture and one that Zambon uses as inspiration in every thread. Your eyes are smacked with volume and colour, bright citrus hues splashed onto oversized, rounded shapes that seem to float away from the body. The brand takes advantage of juxtaposed surfaces through matte and shiny materials, maybe best played off by the teddy fleece and technical nylon.
Think your North Face Nuptse is the king of down jackets? Think again, because the Achill Short Down Jacket might be the best we’ve seen this season and it’s more than qualified to spend some time at your local coffee shop.
Essentials are a key focus of the 2 MONCLER 1952 FW22 Collection with the likes of short or long puffers, zip-up windbreakers, and the hooded sweatshirt joining trousers that are both roomy and adjustable. While accessories include nylon or hand crocheted bucket hats and Clarks Wallabee shoes in bright or natural hues.
Tapping into British subculture MONCLER grabs Barbour’s expertise for a new take on their iconic waxed cotton jackets, usually suited for country life, but seen here in bright pop hues for the collection. We like to think they’ve been culled directly from a nightclub in South London thanks to their hypnotic prints on sweatshirts as well as the makeover of the Moncler logo which condenses the season’s theme into an eye-catching symbol.
We’d call it an accident if it wasn’t MONCLER, but the brand has sigle-handedly created one of the best ‘trail runners’ we’ve seen since the Salomon explosion in 2020. Called the Trailgrip GTX, the shoe is a stand-out low-top sneaker that’s crafted from the same fabric as key outerwear pieces in the collection, forming a bond between outer layers and footwear.
