Breguet Revamps Marine 5517 and 5527 With New Guilloché Dials

Breguet has revamped two of its core Marine watches, bringing the “Quai de l’Horloge” guilloché pattern from its 250th-anniversary celebrations to 12 new references across the Marine 5517 and Marine Chronographe 5527.

The new Marine 5517 and 5527 keep their familiar case sizes, carry the same movements, but reorganise the faces with a bit more Breguet brevity. Both now use hand-guilloché 18K gold dials, Breguet Arabic numerals, and a date window at 6 o’clock, while a gold Breguet appliqué sits at 12.

For anyone unfamiliar with the “Quai de l’Horloge” pattern, Breguet first introduced it last year for the maison’s 250th anniversary, naming it after the Paris address where Abraham-Louis Breguet established his workshop in 1775. Each design draws on the contours of the Île de la Cité and Île Saint-Louis, two natural islands along the Seine River, while the guilloché itself evokes the movement of waves.

Two Takes on the Same Breguet Revamp

While the same island-contoured guilloché runs across both, the 5517 and 5527 flow in opposite directions across their six core executions (each with either a rubber strap or metal bracelet option). The 5517 streamlines the face with three hands and a date, while the 5527 adds the extra visual weight of a flyback chronograph.

The Marine 5517 is clearly the cleaner option of the two. Its 40-mm case and three-hand layout give the new guilloché considerably more room to breathe, while the 55-hour Calibre 777A keeps the mechanics relatively straightforward. The white-gold Marine 5517 gets an ice-blue dial, with the rose-gold version finished in black, while the titanium Marine 5517 gets a blue-gradient dial.

Breguet has carried the maritime theme into the smaller details, too. The tip of the seconds hand forms a “B” in reference to the Bravo maritime flag, while the crown guard picks up more of that wave motif. And my favourite part: the gold rotor visible through the sapphire caseback, inspired by a rudder.

The Marine Chronographe 5527 carries a fair bit more than the 5517, thanks to its larger 42.3mm case and the flyback Calibre 582QA inside. Breguet arranges the extra information around two counters at 3 and 9 o’clock for chronograph minutes and small seconds, moving the date to 6 o’clock to bring more symmetry to the busier layout.

The white-gold and rose-gold versions of the Marine Chronographe 5527 both feature blue-gradient dials, while the titanium alternative moves to a grey-gradient dial. The same Bravo-flag chronograph hand, wave-inspired crown treatment, and rudder-style rotor carry the nautical detailing over from the 5517.

Each model is available on either a rubber strap carrying the same “Quai de l’Horloge” motif or a case-matching metal bracelet.

Pricing and Availability

Prices for the new Breguet Marine watches start at AUD$41,400 for the titanium 5517, rising to AUD$67,400 for the white and rose gold 5517 models, with the gold 5527 at AUD$81,900.

For all the extra guilloché and gold on display, these are still Breguet’s sports watches. The Marine already had that part covered; this revamp gives the 5517 and 5527 more of the character you’d expect from watches carrying the Breguet name.
