The party isn’t over just yet. Influential watchmaker Breguet has announced the fifth chapter in its expansive 250th anniversary celebration, unveiling the Marine Hora Mundi 5555. A feat of horological ingenuity, the new timepiece is a stunning encapsulation of the maison’s house style, fusing world timer functionality with undeniable sophistication. Make no mistake, however, this isn’t a daily driver. Limited to just 50 pieces worldwide, the Marine Hora Mundi 5555 will set you back AUD$160,200; a small price to pay for a piece of watchmaking history.

Marine Hora Mundi 5555 Dial
At its core, the new timepiece is a familiar take on the current collection. The Marine Hora Mundi 5555 sports the same 43.9mm case, 77F1 calibre with pre-programmable instant jump dual time zone, date, day/night indicator and synchronised city. However, there is a lot more to this anniversary model than mere specifications. According to Breguet, the Hora Mundi 5555 is a complete revamp, one that pays tribute to craftsmanship through its unique dial design.
Comprising two superimposed levels, one guilloché and the other sapphire, the dial is inspired by NASA’s “Black Marble”, a nocturnal vision of the Earth. The darker hues of the central globe are peppered with phosphorescent enamel, producing a sparkling motif that feels very much like a city sky taken from above. The subtle curve effect further adds to the worldly aesthetic, with Breguet revealing that the optical illusion was achieved through the integration of guilloché meridian and parallel lines. As the lines converge towards the four cardinal points, the dial appears to ’round’, creating a spherical effect that is truly remarkable.

Importantly, it’s not the first time we’ve seen Breguet reinvent dial design for the Hora Mundi collection. In 2023, the maison released the 5557 model, which featured a unique three-dial composition. The base was a sapphire crystal disk with a hand-engraved map of the world, overlaid by a silvered gold dial for the hours and minutes, with a third dial of lapis lazuli displaying the calendar functions.
The new Marine Hora Mundi 5555 is perhaps not as mechanically technical as that model, but there is a case to be made for its complexity. The dial is entirely hand-painted in three phases, on both sides, with all the continents painted in miniature enamel before being transferred by pad printing in transparent petit feu enamel. Breguet has also confirmed that each of the lucky 50 collectors who receive the piece will be able to personalise the cities assigned to the 24 time zones.

Breguet Firsts
When you have been around as long as Breguet has, firsts don’t come very often, but the iconic watchmaker has managed to do some innovative things with the Marine Hora Mundi 5555. For the first time, the Marine case is made of 18K Breguet gold, and, in a rare move, the central attachment has been polished.
The back also features the double edging of the special 250th anniversary guilloché, known as Quai de l’Horloge, while just beneath, the calibre 77F1 has had its oscillating weight crafted from Breguet gold for the first time.

77F1 Calibre
While not a new addition, the 77F1 movement remains one of the watchmaker’s most significant innovations. In addition to the time and date, it indicates a second time and date pair for the time zone of one’s choice, based on one of the 24 cities, each representing a time zone.
Unique to Breguet, the movement is based on the principle of a mechanical memory with instantaneous display. After setting the time and date with the crown at 3 o’clock in relation to a first city, simply set the second city and its time zone with the push-button crown at 8 o’clock. The mechanism then calculates the time and date by means of a system of cams, hammers and an integrated differential.
Once you press the pusher at 8 o’clock, the display switches on demand between the first and second time zones, automatically adjusting the date in both cases. While the technology does bear some similarities to a GMT watch, there are some important differences, Emmanuel Breguet, head of patrimony, explained.
“A GMT watch allows the local and reference time to be read quickly and easily, often via a dedicated hand,” Breguet said. “A dual time zone watch, on the other hand, goes further: it offers a simultaneous and intuitive reading of two distinct times, supported by a more sophisticated horological architecture.”

Breguet’s 250th Anniversary Models
For Breguet, the release of the Marine Hora Mundi 5555 caps off a remarkable year of celebration. This milestone year saw the legendary brand, which was founded by Abraham Louis Breguet in 1775, release four commemorative pieces. In April, Breguet unveiled the Classique Souscription 2025, a contemporary take on the maison’s unspohisticated style crafted in a new exclusive gold alloy. The watchmaker then followed it up with the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 703 and Type XX Chronographe 2075, before unveiling the exquisite Classique Tourbillon Sidéral 7255 in July.
The latest Breguet Marine Hora Mundi 5555 is limited to 50 pieces worldwide, with each model priced at AUD$160,200. The timepiece features a 43.9mm case in Breguet gold with a fluted middle, a two-plate dial with miniature enamel and phosphorescent enamel paintings. Those lucky enough to get their hands on this ultra-exclusive watch will also receive a Special Edition 250th presentation box in red leather, individually numbered, inspired by the red Breguet Moroccan leather cases of the period.
